ICE just moved through Rogers Park, headed north into Evanston. The RP community response has not gotten slower in the winter. A lot of folks were out in the streets the moment they got off Lake Shore Drive. Everyone on the North Side is on high alert today. Stay ready.

Ring of Fire | Michael Friedrich A new book explores the incentives that sparked an arson wave in the Bronx during the 1970s.

In the 1970s, landlords burned their buildings for profit, displacing thousands of tenants in poor neighborhoods. For @thebaffler.com, I wrote about @benchansfield.bsky.social's excellent “Born in Flames” and the consequences of the arson wave. thebaffler.com/latest/ring-...

Poetry Review Submissions: Paying Markets

Hi poetry reviewers, writers, readers: here’s a document I made of paying reviews markets. Holler at me if you see something that needs to be updated/deleted/added! 🙏 I would appreciate it. Would love this to be a community resource for freelance writers to be paid for their criticism.

I've found that real oatmeal reheats easily without getting gluey/mushy, so I take the half hour to make enough for the week and then portion it out every morning. it's WAY better (w/maple syrup and fruit).

Here's Shishito, who lives with her sister, Poblano, (and sometimes an opossum) under the porch of our building. I feed her every day, but can't invite her in because my partner's allergic. She's perfect.
