Set in 1348 France during the bubonic plague, it’s a bit of a hybrid genre of historical fiction and fantasy. Truly entertaining and immersive.

Said to be a challenge to read, instead I found scenes that seamlessly and melodically blend into each other through the 405 page single sentence that comprises Herscht 07769 by László Kraszhónahorkai.

Going to attempt Herscht 07769 by László Kraszhónahorkai. Looks like a challenge to read with the 400 page single sentence structure. I’ve read two other novels by this author and enjoyed them.
Cover of book Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders
One of the most surreal novels I’ve read in a while. A postmodern masterpiece about the death of Abraham Lincoln’s son Willie, who is struck in the Bardo, somewhere between life and afterlife, and the giant cast of characters also there. Just amazing.

Cover of book A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole
Set in New Orleans with a wild cast of characters. A novel with many threads that tie together satisfyingly. Hilarious, sad, but ultimately redeeming. The backstory of the author and novel is pretty fascinating. Loved it.

The ADHD first person narrative of Holden Caulfield must have influenced writers in the following decade. A bit cutting edge at the time. Enjoyed. J. D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye.

Cover of book Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck
Snapshot of America in 1960 with Steinbeck as our guide, exploring the land and interacting with the people, becomes a cry out for sanity from the old patterns of not recognizing the humanity of those that don’t look like “us”. Relevant today. Loved it.
