If I make another game, I won't be talking about it here. It will be literally just for me. I can't spend another 2 years of pouring my heart and soul into something with the intention of making it available for retail only for it to fail so miserably a second time. That's all I have to say.

I put everything I had into that game. I knew it wouldn't be some crazy sleeper hit, but to not even reach Steam's minimum payout threshold 5 months after release with paid promotion to an audience that actually has an interest in games like it, I don't think I can describe how much this hurts.

At the end of that week, with only 1 new sale and 8 new wishlists, it has become clear to me that I've made a garbage game that only appeals to people who were either involved with helping me put it together, or people who have a positive opinion of me as a person.

He ran a week long promotion that included a 30 minute spot during one of his streams, a pinned link in chat during the stream after, and shout-outs on his socials. Serious potential to introduce Curtains to a lot of other retro/indie enthusiasts. Needless to say, hopes were at an all time high.

I went ahead and put my last Twitch payout toward promoting my game. I reached out to General Andrews, a retro and indie enthusiast streamer with a solid viewer base. Nice guy, even worked with me on his rates so I could afford to pay him.

#HighwayNoir is part of #NextFest! You can play the demo and wishlist here:

Two cropped, side by side screen shots of a driving game. On the left, a police car is marked with a red pointer and a yellow racer is marked with a yellow pointer. On the right, the police car has a light blue pointer and the racer is now pink with a pink pointer. Menu samples superimposed in the middle of the image show settings being changed for the colour coding
Red/amber/green colour coding doesn't work for everyone. I've made sure that in #HighwayNoir you can change the palette to suit your preferences. That extends to NPC markers, progress bars, low vision mode recolours etc

Drowning my sorrows in various SNES speed runs. Nothing distracts the mind quite like the sounds of my childhood and locking in to achieve a new personal best time. Probably best to just stick with what I'm actually good at.
Made an attempt at further optimizations for clown game to no avail. Nothing short of rebuilding it in a different engine is going to fix the issue I've been hearing about. Sorry to anyone who can't run it. I tried.
It isn't just about trying to make a successful career in the creative field. Everything I've done since I was old enough to work has ended in failure, not just trying to sell a game. I'm tired of trying and I just want it to end, one way or another.
The thing is, ever since I was 16 years old, I've been trying to make something happen so I can support myself monetarily. Everything I've done, artistically or otherwise has failed, and I'm tired of trying. I don't care how this streak of failures ends anymore, I just want it to end.
This isn't just about making games. Ever since I was old enough to have a job, I have tried and failed to find a way to monetarily support myself. Selling a game is just the most recent entry on the long list of my failures. I'm tired of running this race only to finish last every single damn time.
I knew from the start that Curtains The Clown didn't stand a chance at commercial success, but the reality of it hurts deeply. I should have just made it a free-to-play game, that would have saved a lot of post-release heartache. I'm just so tired of losing in the game of life. Rank me out already.
All this time, I thought I would be receiving a payout from Steam this month, but it turns out that reaching the $100 threshold isn't enough. It has to be over $100 after Steam takes their cut to process the payout. I made $110 in total sales, and the last sale was on Christmas.
*sigh*
I totally get that, streaming can be a big time and attention investment, even when it's occasional. That was exactly why I didn't stream at all while working on CTC until it was close to finished.
It would be great to have you! No worries about activity, feel free to lurk and chat as you please
I hope you're not suggesting that watching my dev streams and a handful of minutes in game is a valid metric for a fair review.
I'd honestly prefer a negative review from someone who played my game instead of a positive review from someone who didn't.
My game is on sale - 60% off π
(probably costs less than a cup of coffee depending on where you live!)

My schedule will change next month, so as it currently stands, I'll be live Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9am EST for at least 8 hours each day. My commentary is very R-rated, but I make a point to look out for whomever may find their way into chat. Despite my trucker's mouth, it's a safe place
Since the beginning of the month, I've been streaming a lot. It has been going surprisingly well so I'll be doing it a lot more throughout the year. I like to clown around with chat while playing a variety of games, but mostly retro and souls-like/soulsborne. Come up and see me some time.
check it out guys its actually a mobile format now

That's the most promising indication that it's legit that I've seen so far, thank you for posting it. I too went and filled it out before seeing a solid verification, but this quote is in line with what I've been seeing in other posts.
And hey, if you're feeling adventurous, there's a demo on the other side of this link.

It's #ScreenshotSaturday so I'm sharing the trailer for #CurtainsTheClown because rules were made to be broken. The same can be said about my English grammer. I'm such a rebel π
