This is the most important thing you will read today – and probably the whole year, honestly.
We cannot let the AMOC collapse. For one thing it will make Iceland uninhabitable, and I would really like my children and grandchildren not to become refugees. But the effects will be almost everywhere.

Greta Thunberg meets Justin Trudeau amid climate strikes: 'He is not doing enough' Activist has private meeting with Canadian prime minister, who later says he 'agrees with her completely'
This moment would never have been possible if teenagers had been banned from engaging in democratic debate on social media
If the Liberals passed this into law in 2018, Ontario students would’ve been unable to organize protests against Doug Ford’s sex-ed curriculum change
15 yr old Greta Thunberg would have been banned from posting about climate change
Teenagers actually participate in our democracy, believe it or not

"I’m a doctor. Here are five overlooked ways the Ontario government is making our ERs more crowded, not less" by @drgorfinkel.bsky.social

4.Expanding for‑profit medicine
This comes on the heels of a bunch of terrible IRCC stories including the British midwife in BC who faces deportation for not submitting proof of English competency. The portal did not allow her to upload the test results and the checklist made it seem optional.
Kémy Adé was shocked by the immigration refusal letter she received. In rejecting her permanent residence application, the Immigration Department cited her current job duties, which included wiring and assembling control circuits, building control and robot panels, programming and troubleshooting. The department said these duties didn’t match the Canadian work experience she claimed. Well, no, they didn’t. Adé is a post-doctoral research fellow and guest teacher at McMaster University — and those skills are not part of her repertoire. Nor are they what she submitted in her immigration application a year ago. “I saw this language about this job description that has nothing to do with me,” said the health scientist from France, who has a PhD from Sorbonne University in the immunology of aging. “I was disoriented how this could happen.” But a disclaimer at the bottom of the refusal letter might provide a hint. It’s believed to be the first time that the department explicitly referred to the use of generative AI to support application processing in immigration refusals. The disclaimer also noted that all generated content was verified by an officer and that generative AI was not used to make or recommend a decision.
Today in AI:
Canada rejected the PR application of a McMaster postdoc from the Sorbonne who works in the immunology of aging because the generative AI being used to process applications (😱) entirely hallucinated her credentials.
Everyone involved should be fired.

Dr Ade is doing her Canadian funded post-doctoral fellowship in my lab. I can attest that she is an exceptional scientist who studies the immunology of age and teaches immunology and not someone who builds robots. Madness.

Long COVID is a #DOHaD issue, whether people want to admit it or not.
We are going to see generational effects from this that no one is going to be able to explain because young people, especially women, aren’t being screened prior to pregnancy.
My “hot take” is that most people with long COVID don’t even know that they *have* long COVID. I see so many patients, friends & colleagues who feel “sick all the time” or have a “really fast heart rate” & don’t put 2+2 together
Long COVID & risk of incident CVD: a prospective cohort study
“Long COVID is associated with increased risk of incident CVD, particularly cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure & CAD. These findings underscore the need for systematic follow-up & integration of long COVID into CV risk assessment”

American “news” is so incredibly embarrassing, as are the whiny British people quoted in this piece. The “freezing Canadian island” is Newfoundland, & they were “stranded” in its capital city.

Black women have worse IVF outcomes. New science helps explain why
“Black participants responded slightly better than people of other racial or ethnic groups to ovarian stimulation drugs & their eggs produced high-quality embryos…Nevertheless, [Black women] had a lower rate of live birth”
