you can completely ignore other papers showing the receptor is not expressed in these cells, because errm.. scRNAseq! But also the existence of (non-functional but who cares) alternatively spliced transcripts and expression of genes with high sequence similarity by all the identified populations.

Targeting NK cell CLEC12B enhances cancer immunotherapy - Nature Immunology Here the authors identify CLEC12B, a natural killer cell inhibitory checkpoint that limits antitumor immunity. They also develop a nanobody to target it, activating natural killer cell killing of tumo...

Good news! If you want to publish in @natimmunol.nature.com that a new immune receptor is expressed by immune cells, you just need scRNAseq and a polyclonal antibody. The big advantage is that

Yes I find it super interesting to see what duplications/manipulation look like in real-life articles. These examples definitely pushed me being more careful in reviewing.

On the balance of knowledge - Nature Reviews Immunology Ruslan Medzhitov shares his thoughts on the balance between generating data and developing theories in immunology, with a focus on exploring the rules that govern complex systems.

Too much data, too little thinking.
A important essay from Ruslan Medzhitov on the importance of understanding data, not just generating it. A must read.

Vacatures - PhD tumor immunology of peritoneal metastasis - Amsterdam UMC Colorectal cancer with peritoneal metastases has a particularly poor prognosis. In this KWF-funded project, you will investigate how glycan structures affect immune responses in peritoneal metastasis and whether glycan inhibition can restore anti-tumor immunity.

Our lab is hiring a PhD student to investigate how glycans affect antitumor immune responses in metastases and how this can be modulated to improve immunotherapy! More info here 👇

Prestige over merit: An adapted audit of LLM bias in peer review Large language models (LLMs) are playing an increasingly integral, though largely informal, role in scholarly peer review. Yet it remains unclear whether LLMs reproduce the biases observed in human de...

Yet again, machine learning — even gussied up via the transformer architecture — encodes and reinforces societal biases.

This study reveals that LLM-based peer review relies heavily on author institution in its decisions.
