Why I Support Alto Alto represents more than a train: it is a test of whether Canada is still willing to build ambitious, human, nation-shaping infrastructure.

This isn’t really about trains.

It’s about whether Canada is still willing to build major infrastructure, or keep studying it.

The case has been known for decades. The question now is whether we act on it.

No Tucker, that’s not how this works. You did damage for years. You helped create this disaster. You sat on national television and blatantly lied over and over again. You knew what you were doing all along.

Take your fake apology and kick rocks off the edge of a cliff.

LUTNICK: It is outrageous that Canada will not put US spirits on the shelf. It is insulting and disrespectful to America

The announcement for this on social media was really lovely, too! They had done a "Canadiens reading STM stops" bit, and then...I guess it escalated? It's really great!

Ukraine’s Second Miracle Year The war isn’t won, but for the first time in years, outright victory seems possible.

"Ukraine has a theory of victory that looks plausible, while Russia’s is crumbling. There is a path to Ukraine achieving overwhelming drone dominance...Russia bet that meat waves would overwhelm Ukraine while the US and Hungary blocked Western support, and failed." open.substack.com/pub/thebulwa...

We expect some positive decisions tomorrow on the €90 billion loan to Ukraine.

This would show that our support for Ukraine remains strong and that Russia cannot outlast Ukraine.

one of the ways the mid to late 20th century political world has distorted the historical memories of even sophisticated observers is in the idea that you can achieve major transformations of american political life through something like bipartisan consensus

🚀 Breakthrough on Mars!

Mars Curiosity rover just discovered its most diverse collection of organic molecules yet. 7 of these 21 compounds have never been seen on the Red Planet before, proving Mars’ ancient chemistry was even more complex than we thought. #Mars #NASA #SpaceExploration

A short academic paper about how a comparatively tiny number of online influencers have wildly disproportionate effects on what gets attention in media. And they're pushing bullshit & lies. It's bad.

Globe showing the Atlantic Ocean with arrows depicting the AMOC circulation: warm surface currents (pink/red) flowing northward from the tropics toward the Arctic, and cold deep return currents (blue/purple) flowing southward. The background shows sea surface temperature trends, with a prominent blue cold patch, the "cold blob", south of Greenland, contrasting with warming (orange/red) across the rest of the ocean.

1/ There's a system of ocean currents in the Atlantic that shapes Europe's #climate, drives monsoons, and keeps sea levels stable along the US coast.

In the last 5 years, the scientific evidence that it could collapse has shifted dramatically.

Most people have no idea. 🧵

If you think the nuclear-powered supercarrier USS Gerald R. Ford is the most powerful ship in the world, you are wrong. It's actually the German cruise ship Mein Schiff 4 (pictured), which successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend

This next election is going to be so so so bad. SO BAD.

And i think by doing that, they prepared the ground and left the PQ nowhere to go except harder right (also driven by leadership ofc).

2 days ago 1 0 1 0

Yes great points. I'm not saying CAQ was separatist, just their tent included many separatist voters, and so instincts were to fan those flames (ex notwithstanding clause, no religious symbols in Parliament except Christian, no face coverings, reversing immigration, attacking Anglo universities etc)

2 days ago 0 0 1 0

While it feels a bit weird to see the separatists go hard right, they were always populist, the CAQ was a slide to centre right, plus being tinged with Pur Laine and defending Christian traditions and using language police against immigrants and Anglos like us, ...direction seems inevitable.

Hopefully Quebec won't elect a separatist government led by someone flirting with MAGA. I doubt PQ will win, i think it will be a LPQ majority to avoid that kind of crap and a referendum which no-one wants.

I don't think I'll ever get over Clarence Thomas ruling on cases related to Jan 6 knowing that his wife was an active participant in the attempted coup.

Or ruling on cases related to government regulations and a wealth tax knowing he took gifts from billionaires.

It's a disgrace.

The constant focus on the "remarkable" and "inspiring" "resilience" of Ukrainians continues to displace the focus from the horrendous psychological trauma Ukrainians are suffering from the endless death and destruction rained upon them by Russia day after day after day.
