So, yeah. The movies are made independently.
But much, much more importantly… the audience is made independent of the system that would make them a manufactured commodity. Independent films necessitate and create independent audiences."

But in this age of the IP management and franchise farming, a better definition would be “movies made outside the conglomerate system that feeds back its audience into itself.”
"So with this in mind, what does “Independent Film” mean?
Yeah, a common definition would be: “A film made outside the major studio system.” And maybe that was a working definition a few years ago, when the studio system made movies as a commodity, instead of manufacturing audiences.

'This all leads to a “closing window of creativity,” to quote a screenwriter interviewed by Osterweil. Nothing is a story, all is just “content,” to be Borg-assimilated into the Red-Pill-proof Matrix that is Disney’s body of IPs.'

Five minutes later the full weight of it hit me like a dropped cinderblock.

Wow... Kubrick's LOLITA hits differently in a Post-Epstein world. People talk about EYES WIDE SHUT being prescient. Look at this scene... Is Sellers doing a Woody Allen impression?

I don't know if I'll miss traditional publishing. I've been involved with it in various capacities since 1990, and its been in a state of perpetual crisis the whole time, many of which were of the industry's own creation. It was just a matter of time before one of these crises hit a vital spot.
All the dystopian shit I grew up on is no longer futuristic fantasy, it’s reportage. Ballard, Atwood, Butler, Lafferty, Dick, Russ, Tiptree, Aldiss, Brunner, Sheckley, Cronenberg. The cacotopian shit has all come true.”
It’s hugely refreshing to have that nifty, teen nerd aesthetic in a major science fiction release. Why? Because, living in an actual dystopia, it’s kind of a bummer to sit through another SF premise like the latest Hunger Games installment, The Long Walk, Mickey 17, and that Running Man remake."

RS Benedict correctly pointed out that in modern movies, "Everyone is Beautiful, and No One Is Horny." People are hating on _The Bride!_. I liked it a lot. But love it or hate hate it, _The Bride_ is HORNY AS F*CK!! And for that alone, we have to praise Maggie Gyllenhaal and extend thanks to her.
Each time I see this movie, it's a different film. And each of those different films, I love. Jerzy Skolimowski's THE SHOUT. Based on a Robert Graves story, starring Alan Bates, John Hurt, Susannah York, Tim Curry, and Robert Stephens.
