When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

Golly it must be fun to be off the charts clever and get to write about the mind-boggling antics of Andy Ogles set before the backdrop of my surreal little hometown, Nashville, TN. I chortled throughout this piece from the Scene.

I think she’s gone now. You can let your dog out.
Noem’s road show in Nashville includes this: a presser where she hypes the criminality of immigrants, berates our mayor, Freddie O’Connell, for not having ICE’s backs, and levels threats to Belmont, a local private Christian college who apparently sees DEI as a Christian tradition.
Re-reading this blurb, chosen for brevity’s sake, I’m seeing how biased the language is. I’m sorry for boosting you, Housler. We have plenty of good reporting here. I chose poorly. 😞
Kristi Noem’s staff asked TN Rep. Justin Jones to leave BNA ahead of her presser after being granted permission by BNA and the Secret Service to attend her event. Jones had intended to ask some hard hitting questions about recent ICE operations in his district, questions Noem meant to avoid.
In Nashville the Good Trouble action is Sat. July 19, joining forces with the Annual Rep John Lewis march. The march begins at 8am at the corner of Jefferson and Rosa Parks Blvd, ending at the Nashville Museum of African American Music followed by a sidewalk protest on Commerce. Hydrate, people!
The 3rd rally outside the Federal Courthouse in Nashville for due process and justice for Kilmar Abrego Garcia took place July 16 as another hearing took place to decide on next steps for the wrongfully deported man now accused of crimes without evidence.
Wrongfully deported Kilmar Garcia, back in the US thanks to court orders, faces charges that emerged from a past TN traffic stop that bore zero consequences at the time. A soothing salve for a presidential ego? Join us for his arraignment at the fed courthouse in N’ville to ensure justice.

Climate scientist Jeff Masters explains how our new Energy Secretary Chris Wright is using numbers selectively plucked from IPCC reports to mislead Americans about climate change.
“It is time to turn the corner from corn & soy monocultures to the sesames, prickly pear cactus, garbanzos, millets and mulberries of the world that desert dwellers have eaten in delicious dishes for millennia.”

Harvard scientist Kseniia Petrova has been in ICE custody for about two months. Her colleague and friend Leon Peshkin says her case is causing some scientists to reconsider working in the U.S.
Good news for Earth Day! Nine U.S. states have set goals to conserve 30% of their land by 2030-and MD got there first.
This story is part of a NYT series, "50 States, 50 Fixes." Tune into NPR at 10AM eastern this morning to hear from authors @carabuckley.bsky.social, @catrineinhorn.bsky.social & I.
Soot from wildfires across Western North America have had a similar impact, accelerating Greenland melting as well.
We live on a round planet, and everything is connected!
The majority of people —56% in the US!—are worried about climate change, but not activated.
Why not? Most feel helpless, hopeless, and don't know what to do. So more fear won't activate them. Rather, knowing what to do—and being invited to do it—will.
Where to start? With a conversation today. 🧵
If we could have been in Nashville, we would have. @thirdacttn.bsky.social

The authors see some "genuinely promising technological advances" on the supply side.
"On the demand side, the psychological barriers to behavior change will not be resolved without confronting the drivers that ‘create’ air travel consumption and artificially accelerate demand."

"The 'radical flank effect' shows that when radical activists push boundaries, they often make moderate voices in the same movement appear more reasonable. Recent research found that even when JSO provoked public anger, support for moderate organisations such as Friends of the Earth increased."
Most of yesterday's intelligence hearing focused on Signal.
Something else not to be missed: this exchange between Sen. King (ME-I) Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence. King asked why the 2025 Annual Threat Assessment did not mention climate change, after doing so for 11 years.
Get it on the calendar. Details coming soon.
The last book you mentioned here was a wowzer so I’m paying attention.

They have to go, to be replaced by #agroecology and #CropDiversity - legumes, vegetable and fruit; healthy nutrition not empty calories
