We went to the moon. #MattJohnson might convince you that it's possible we faked the moon landing. #OperationAvalanche is definitely his film in style and presentation. The premise is asinine but the adventure they give us is compelling. #CanadianFilm

Does the writer and director matter when picking a film? I make an argument that writers and directors matter, especially when they are the same person.

Happy #EarthDay to those who celebrate. Everybody I know lives on #Earth. So we should all celebrate. We have this in common.
Crackie showcases multigenerational trauma among 3 generations of women in Newfoundland. Mitsy, the teenage girl, takes up with a much older man. Her mother moves back. Mitsy wants to live with her mother but the love is one-sided. #CanadianFilm

Happy #420Day to all who celebrate. We suggest a great #CanadianFilm to celebrate. #CanadianStrain. What happens when to a marijuana dealer when the government makes pot legal? buff.ly/9IoBWaz
Rogers Sportsnet sells the national rights. TVA Sports took that over in the first contract in 2014. The new contract starts this fall. This may be a negotiating tactic even if the losses are very real. Rogers is trying to recover $ as well from overpaying for the rights.
For an anglophone, I am intrigued by the notion that outlets aren't rushing to carry the Montreal Canadiens on TV in French. Right now, 39 games are up for grabs. The NHL assures us all the games will be in French next season. Where?

Welcome to National #CanadianFilm Day, 2026 edition. Lots of free screenings in Canada. Some screenings elsewhere. A chance to love and appreciate Canadian film.

Doc, starring Molly Parker, finishes up Season 2 tonight. We look back at the considerable list of #MollyParker projects where we have seen her. Not all of them are Canadian.

Undertone is a new horror film that involves a podcast and is shot inside the director's home. Catching up on a list of 23 all-time Canadian comedy films. All in our latest #CanadianFilm notebook.

You easily could have watched Hockey Night in Canada and always have seen Scott Oake. After Hours was a thoughtful ending to a night of hockey. #ScottOake is retiring at the end of the playoffs.

"Free with ads" is helpful and annoying. Used to be worse watching movies with commercials. The movies are better these days.

Welcome to #NationalBeerDay. My favourite, which I haven't had in awhile, is La Fin du Monde from Quebec. My favourite with dinner.
Violent is not a violent film. A character study of the last encounter for a young woman of 5 key people in her life. Technically a #CanadianFilm but you will easily mistake this for a Norwegian film.

#farmers have to eat. The regime in power is definitely anti-farmer. #farmersmarket

Hoping you are having a good #EasterMonday. That isn't a thing in a lot of places. I only remember Easter Monday as an extra day if spring break ran the week before #Easter.
Happy #Easter to those who celebrate. Hope you are with loved ones.
At Blue Jays game in Chicago. White Sox concessions have gone poorly. Most food items not available. Only 2nd game of season.
Hope this is a good Friday for some. A Good Friday for others.
More than okay to chase Best Picture nominees for the Academy Awards. Extend the net to other years to find some wonderful films.

Chasing the best picture nominees for the Canadian Screen Awards is almost impossible to do before the ceremony. #CanadianFilm rolls out more slowly, especially outside of Toronto. I've seen all but one and that is unusual.

Happy #Passover to all those who celebrate! Chag Sameach
My uncle died a year ago. No joke. My only blood uncle. Only learned about this in mid August. There was no funeral but that wasn't the point. Family is weird.
#971TheDrive plays 10 "fool" songs on #AprilFoolsDay. The one song they never play is this #Beatles classic.

Tempting to think of today as March 32 instead of April 1. #AprilFools had its place in more naive times. One of the few joys of being older is remembering a world where fooling people was fun.
The Dirties is more than just guerrilla style filmmaking. The film is a parody of the planning of a school shooting, or is it? A must watch if you enjoyed Matt Johnson's making of Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie. #CanadianFilm

The Junos were live and celebrated Canadian music. Not in the late spring but late winter. An ideal time to celebrate. The #CanadianFilm and #CanadianTV celebrations are joined at the hip. Used to be in March but now are trapped in late May. A lot of awards given off-camera. Follow the Junos way.
A #CanadianTV update: A new Dan Levy project for Netflix. CW eagerly gets Season 4 of Sullivan's Crossing to the airwaves. The Toronto Blue Jays have a video tribute to 50 seasons of MLB's only team outside the United States.
