The World Meteorological Organisation warns Earth's climate is out of balance. Will El Niño worsen impacts? The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) has warned that Earth’s climate is now more “out of balance” than at any point in recorded history. This imbalance refers to the difference between the amount of heat energy the planet absorbs from the Sun and the amount it radiates back into space. According to the WMO, Earth is currently absorbing far more heat than it can release, largely due to greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide produced by human activities like burning fossil fuels. This excess energy is not harmlessly dispersed, in fact, it is accumulating within the climate system and driving widespread changes. The consequences are already visible. Over 90% of this trapped heat is stored in the oceans, which have reached record temperatures, accelerating sea-level rise and intensifying storms. At the same time, glaciers are retreating rapidly and polar sea ice is at or near historic lows. The WMO also highlights that the past 11 years have been the warmest since records began in 1850, with global temperatures now around 1.43°C above pre-industrial levels. Atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations are at their highest in at least two million years, reinforcing the conclusion that human activity is the primary driver of this imbalance...

More expensive fish do not always have the most nutrients, according to a new study A new analysis has found that some of the cheapest fish in coastal catches deliver the widest range of essential nutrients, outperforming more expensive species. That finding reframes which fish truly sustain diets, linking everyday food choices to hidden nutritional gaps. Scientists followed people who removed sweets from their diet and reported very unexpected outcomes Researchers have found that reducing or increasing daily exposure to sweet-tasting foods over six months does not change how much adults like sweetness or how much they consume. That finding challenges a central assumption behind dietary advice that targeting sweetness itself can reshape cravings, eating behavior, and health outcomes. Sweets and daily diets In the
