lol apparently those cute little japanese emperor butterfly (sasakia) caterpillars that have antlers and a :3 face have such bad breath that they scare away predatory wasps. look they're making them take breathalyzer tests. the results are in: stinky!!

Any ECRs interested in joining a journal editorial board? I’m leaving an associate editor position due to upcoming maternity leave and other commitments and am happy to offer suggestions to the journal for a relacement. Broad zoology remit, reasonable workload.

‘I see it as trafficking’: the brutal reality of life as a foreign student in the UK The long read: Universities in Britain rely on overseas applicants paying full fees, which has given rise to some unscrupulous recruiters and left many hopefuls and their families deep in debt

Sobering and depressing story about the awful conditions faced by several international students, and how this stems from the terrible politics behind university fees and immigration.

Very excited to see my most recent paper out in Behavioural Ecology and Sociobiology 🥳. We asked whether the high rate of mating failure in a lygaeid seed bug can be explained by male driven cryptic mate choice. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

School book banning escalates in the UK as Greater Manchester secondary school censors scores of books - Index on Censorship A school librarian faced a disciplinary hearing and scores of books were removed from her school library after she stocked Laura Bates’ Men Who Hate Women

This is utterly jaw-dropping.

A school that bans Atwood, Zadie Smith, Terry effing Pratchett and *literal George Orwell* is actively harming its pupils.

Last year, J. Endler published an inspiring essay in @behavecol.bsky.social on what we should be doing as behavioral ecologists 👉 doi.org/10.1093/beheco/araf029. According to him, "we need to put Ecology back into Behavioural Ecology: we need to make a lot more use of Natural History" (1/5)
