Honestly, the fear of that happening in BC is what held me back taking the plunge with financing a solar panel install. They can change the rules and suddenly it doesn't make as much financial sense.

It's unfortunate that BC Hydro are switching to net billing in July, which really hurts this benefit from what I understand.

It’s funny how timing always undermines Pierre Poilievre. Shortly after shilling for O&G by calling to cancel Canada’s High Speed Rail project we now face an oil crisis which highlighted the need for alternatives like passenger rail more than ever. His position is now even more stupid and tone deaf.

This is important — London Mayor calls out “The Outrage Economy!”

@sadiqkhanlondon.bsky.social is calling for “significantly stronger action against social media companies that spread disinformation after a study showed a surge in hostile accounts posting falsehoods about London’s crime rates…”

Point of no return: a hellish ‘hothouse Earth’ getting closer, scientists say Continued global heating could set irreversible course by triggering climate tipping points, but most people unaware

“This would lock the world into a new and hellish ‘hothouse Earth’ climate far worse than the 2-3C temperature rise the world is on track to reach. The climate would also be very different to the benign conditions of the past 11,000 years, during which the whole of human civilisation developed.”

My hot take is that surface LRT doesn’t work very well in grid planned cities post-automobile. Skytrain is the best solution.

Do highways pay for themselves? Even Danielle Smith agreed that expanding highway infrastructure would be far more costly and less efficient than passenger rail in Alberta.

In my work with cities around the world, I find that a BIG difference between cities doing remarkable things, and cities that are floundering and failing, is having a culture of energy or a culture of excuse.

Either of those cultures are chosen, and built. Either can be deliberately changed.

An underrated addendum to the Bowling Alone story is that North America's largest bowling operator (Bowlero) is a publicly traded company whose business model involves buying mom and pop alleys, shutting down the leagues, and trying to attract casual, higher paying, one-off players.

The idea of attending the hockey game as a lifestyle product is much more valuable to some people compared to the intrinsic value of the game and even the real culture behind it.

A reminder that top-down planning is the *only* reason this built form exists. When cities form organically they become human scale, not car scale. Strict regulations force this on everyone.

B.C. to end time changes, adopt year-round daylight time | CBC News March 8 will be the last time British Columbians have to change their clocks, B.C. Premier David Eby announced Monday.

More than 80% of people consistently cited their preference for permanent daylight savings in polls, there’s a realm of data that says it supports better outcomes, and it’s very fun when a government can say “we control how time works”.

About a slam dunk win as you can get these days.

Jesus Christ return before 2027 Odds >5% February 17, 12-1 AM? 29% chance

On Polymarket you can now bet on how many people in a different market on Polymarket think Jesus Christ will return in this calendar year.

29% of bets say that more than 5% of bets in the Jesus Christ return market will be a "yes" 9 days from now.

Anyway everyone involved in this needs jailtime.
