This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

I find it ironic so many ads are popping up with items (real or fake) celebrating 250 years of American Independence, but they all have "We the People..." on them...

I am a climate scientist and this is correct.

As the planet warms, storms like the one today are getting stronger… and as the Arctic is warming twice as fast as the mid latitudes, it increases the risk of the “freezer door” swinging open.

Attention folks in the weather, climate, disaster, wildfire, and Earth science communities: NSF has just published a new "Dear Colleague" letter inviting feedback (by Mar 13) on the proposal to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). www.nsf.gov/funding/...

I Am the Payroll Accountant for Professional Protestors in Minnesota, and I Am Swamped by John Moe

As a public university research scientist, I'm obviously well overpaid to seek out fundamental truth. I'm swimming in cash and resources—I can't spend it all fast enough!

If I weren't, though, "paid protester" sounds like a pretty good gig!

The stunning art trove hidden in a D.C. building marked by Trump for disposal Packed with frescoes, paintings and reliefs, the federal government’s Cohen Building has been called “the Sistine Chapel of the New Deal.” Advocates fear these works could be at risk.

This could all be preserved (IMO, better to ask a structural engineer) if demolition is done CAREFULLY. However, the current administration has no capacity for care, and ideologically would rather see it destroyed. www.washingtonpost.com/entertainmen...

Destroying the NSF mural in the foyer. Of the Eisenhower building.

The National Science Foundation sign on our Eisenhower Av building is now gone.

The NSF mural in the foyer is removed and torn off in sheets.

We were supposed to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the agency in May 2025. That never happened.

Panel One.
Two figures walk up a hill in a park. One walks in front and the other is walking a dog

Front "My new year's resolution is to stop lending books"

Dog-walker "Really?"

Panel Two.
Front, becoming agitated
"It's just not worth the risk: cracked spines! Bent corners! Torn pages! Grubby fingers! Crumbs! Baths! Burglars! Rats! Children!! I can't allow such precious artefacts to fall into the careless hands of clumsy philistines!"

Panel Three.
Dog-walker "And how do the other librarians feel about this?"

Front "Less supportive Than I'd hoped."

@linamkhanmirror.bsky.social Hi Lina, I saw you on Robert Reich's Coffee Klatch today, and really like what you and NYC Mayor Mandani are doing. Could we get some good pics of those impressive bookshelves that were behind you in the video feed? I'd love to see what's in your work library!
