This is the most idiotic road expansion because it undercuts demand for the brand new LRT we just built to service the same area

The Moodie LRT garage buildings should be covered in solar panels too. Good symbolism to see the sun powering the train.

How tragic that you could publish, then re-publish, then re-publish, then re-publish, then re-publish a cartoon like this over and over again...

A City Grieving Peter Clark – An Avoidable Tragedy and The lessons We Refuse to Learn Our leaders will lament this tragedy but will stop short of any meaningful action to prevent it.

Our communities are grieving a month after Peter Clark’s death. Our political leaders lament this tragedy — no action to prevent another:

❌ Feds won’t regulate oversized vehicles
❌ Ontario killed speed cameras
❌ Council defunds road safety

To quote the talented @tomflood.bsky.social “courage should come from our councillors not our children.”

Grief at the death of a Peter Clark could manifest in lower speed limits, road safety funding, reevaluation of road safety design approaches, a push to reinstate cameras at prov level 1/

Silver lining is that the trains are arriving frequently so there's usually not much wait, despite what the board says.

Let's hope we keep the same frequency when double cars return!

Funny how shit like this can get done so quickly … so unlike when it comes to unchaining the stairways and sidewalks in Centretown

Parking FREE, but transit isn’t. City is maintaining the road, clearing it, costing money…. City hall parking, Monday to Friday 6 pm to 6 am: $1 per hour, $2 max. Weekends and Holidays anytime: $1 per hour, $2 max - 6 pm to 6 am: $1 per hour, $2 max Cost to GET to city hall on transit, $4.15/pp

I don't know why this is so hard for some people to grasp. If we extend our use of fossil gas, rather than going all-out for grid batteries, heat pumps and induction hobs, we extend our dependence on *foreign* sources of gas, regardless of whether we also use the UK's last remaining reserves. 🧵

Gas tax breaks are bandaids at best. Real solution is to help low & middle-income Cdns get off fossil fuels. Invest in solar, heat pumps, batteries, EVs. Tackle barriers, offer real incentives & fund w/ windfall tax on Big Oil (who are laughing all the way to the bank). Cleaner, cheaper, healthier.

Know what we’d like Mark? Some honesty about the LRT debacle. You promised to fix transit. It has only gotten exponentially worse in your term. The current shiny thing, CBA sensors, isn’t a fix in any sense. The trains are literally falling apart & you just hide from the issue. Stand up or go away.

Terry Fox stands on a rocky shoreline beside a body of water, wearing a light blue athletic shirt with darker sleeves, short running shorts, white socks, and running shoes. His right leg is a prosthetic. Doug Alward stands next to him in a tan jacket and dark pants, hands in his pockets. A rope or cable runs along the edge of the shore in front of them. The water extends into the background with a distant shoreline and buildings visible across it.

On April 12, 1980, Terry Fox, accompanied by his friend Doug Alward, dipped his right leg into the Atlantic Ocean at St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.
It began the Marathon of Hope and turned Fox into a Canadian hero and icon.
This is the story.

As little as I already thought of the man I'm in awe of what he's accomplished in 15 short months. Historic run. Basically threw away all his fire extinguishers and told every firefighter in town to eat shit, and then set his house on fire. We need a separate Mount Rushmore for morons

Being the city with the lowest taxes would be really impressive if you were actually able to provide basic services.

Good morning Ottawa.
Bonjour Ottawa.

It's been 48hrs since I called 311 to report these needles in a park in the Glebe, and they're still there this morning.

Hey but at least I'm paying the lowest taxes in Ontario.

Low taxes bring us an $11b backlog in infrastructure; a failing transit system; crumbling sidewalks and parks; and FTR it’s not just about the amount of taxes, but how they’re spent: we could spend smarter, deliver better and create #OurBestOttawa w/better approaches.

It has taken more than 4 years to get a 'pilot project' passed, which actually won't start until next year, and really all that 'pilot project' does is change some signs — we're supposed to be impressed that such a feat was even possible.

The biggest story in the world right now is that the president of the United States is a demented old man who takes pleasure in torturing and killing people and is committing crimes with impunity. And yet most legacy media outlets are too cowardly to tell it like it is.

Hate is on the move and yet groups like B'nai Brith diminish the seriousness of the threat by smearing progressive leaders like Premier Wab Kinew. It is about about creating a false moral shield to protect the crimes in Israel. Meanwhile serious extremists walk among us.
