zola was tops.
#TheLoveWitch is great. Superbly realised with lots of attention to detail across the production. It has a really playful tone and a strong, powerful perspective.
Already looking forward to watching Biller’s next project. #FilmCatchUp
#OutsideIn lacks any real spark. All the performances are good and it's well assembled, but it never fully engages. The characters are a little underwritten, and it's difficult to invest in their decisions and relationships - I found it quite boring unfortunately. #FilmCatchUp
AJAX!
Anna Biller’s #Viva is fascinating. Production & costume design, all by Biller, is superb (she also stars & is credited for writing, editing, producing & music). I loved her handling of tone, shifting seamlessly from comedic to deeply uncomfortable - she has a very strong vision.
Gregg Araki’s confrontational #MysteriousSkin is still a difficult watch. This is testament to the potency of Araki’s imagery, and the power of the performances. Both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Brady Corbet do career best work in my opinion. #FilmRewatch
The latest #PetSematary is efficiently put together. The family are given just enough characterisation for us to be invested. I wish that it took more liberties with the interpretation, or opted for a more striking aesthetic. I feel this will be forgotten quickly. #Film2019
Thank fuck it's Friday; time to get out of here 🚀✨ #WeekendMix
An image from a new film (well, new to me at least), which has made an impression on me this month: #March2019, ‘Babylon’, 1980 (DoP - Chris Menges, Dir - Franco Rosso) #Film #Cinematography #Art
Haven't had the opportunity to post brief initial impressions on films I've watched recently - so I'll thread a few here.
#TheDayAfter is another fascinating film from Hong Sang-soo. I am amazed how such a simple idea and approach can produce something so knotty, so myriad. Kwon Hae-hyo is fantastic in this, a depressingly flawed and pathetic portrayal of masculine power. #FilmCatchUp
Kristin Thompson continues her interesting series on 3D and film -
#TheLEGOMovie2 is not as smart or inventive as the original. The animation is wonderful though, and the film zips along at a fast past. The voice cast are great too. #Film2019
