I've been riding this high all morning. Finally, a vocal democratic socialist running the NDP. Now we can get somewhere.

I picked it up in this sale, too! Enjoying it so far, although I don’t think the writing is as strong as their previous games.

I’ve read a beautiful fictionalized play about them, and I’m not sure I could emotionally handle what I’m assuming is a non-fiction account of the same thing, based on the sheer rage I felt just finding out about them originally in that class.

A gnarled tree, with a chair carved into it, surrounded by roots, figures, lights. The limbs are filled with ladders and walkways.

We just visited the most incredible place in Zagreb — the Museum of Lost Tales. It’s art by Zdenko Basic based on Croatian folklore. www.muzejprica.com

blue slimes make excellent centerpieces in any garden, but take care to water them frequently and maintain their size, lest they wander away with your prize koi fish!

"The case is a very funny illustration of what can happen when cops, who as a general rule rarely face consequences for their actions, manage to cross a person with plenty of time, a sizable social media following, and a smooth baritone."

Hopefully it’s okay to ask: What specific things/elements are you looking for? Or what aspects are annoying you? I’m curious more than anything.

I know making it edgier is more satisfying, but Xin Mo's blade is described as white more than one and it's also as thin as "the wing of a beetle". So the evil bad vibes sword actually has kind of an aura of grace and immortal power.

Also, while I know we (and the illustrations) all give Luo Binghe the mark on his forehead because it looks cool, he doesn't actually keep it visible even as of Book 2. The Huan Hua disciples don't know he's a demon. That's why Sha Hualing goes into disguise mode when she goes back there.

Refugees are human, and therefore our equals, and therefore deserving of all the same benefits we enjoy while living together on the same soil (and otherwise). I knew the Globe and Mail leaned rightward, but it usually at least pretends to have a sense of compassion.

I was looking at my own list and thinking "this makes it sound like I was fixated on the West and never did my International Relations minor," but to be fair, "these courses taught me about many important genocides" doesn't quite impart the same rosy glow of nostalgia.

Arts One was basically a first year crash-course on The Literary Canon, history, politics, and decolonization. Read 1+ books a week, write an essay by Friday, peer-editing by Sunday. Our first book was The Odyssey. Brutal, and the best way to learn how to drum out 1,500+ words in two days.

My top five undergrad classes would probably be:

Politics and Culture in Fin-de-Siècle Europe
Adaptation in/of 18th Century Europe
Canadian Eco-Criticism
Blues Literature
Arts One

A 3zun server friend shared a prompt about a plant from Superman that gives you dreams about a perfect life so it can use your body as fertilizer, and I had such a blast writing up Jin Guangyao, Nie Mingjue and Lan Xichen's Ideal Lives that I might need to transfer them here as a threadfic later.

A couple of months ago, somebody here posted about @bemyeyes.bsky.social . I just did my first call! The person needed help wrapping presents, and while they were wrangling the goodies we talked about just random stuff. A+, 10/10, download the app, it's what technology is supposed to be

Here’s how much money Los Camp! make from streaming… - Los Campesinos!

"If everyone who streamed All Hell on Spotify had done so using Tidal instead, we would have received an extra £31,847.38, which would double the amount we made from streaming of the album in this time period. Or if everyone used Apple Music it would have been £12,331 more."

Ah, yes. Well, you may keep that particular vicarious experience, but I'm sipping some Yinghong #9 in solidarity.

!!! <3

We still need to book an actual day for that! Also, I think it is an obligation when you post about tea to tell everyone which tea it is so we can briefly live vicariously through you.

I remember doing the same. I have the vague memory of putting the third book down via a combination of “no one is going to be writing the ship I want” and finding out the author herself was strongly anti-fanfic, and then just not getting back to it, but they were incredibly readable.

"Years and years ago, there was a production of The Tempest, out of doors, at an Oxford college on a lawn, which was the stage, and the lawn went back towards the lake in the grounds of the college, and the play began in natural light. But as it developed, and as it became time for Ariel to say his farewell to the world of The Tempest, the evening had started to close in and there was some artificial lighting coming on. And as Ariel uttered his last speech, he turned and he ran across the grass, and he got to the edge of the lake and he just kept running across the top of the water — the producer having thoughtfully provided a kind of walkway an inch beneath the water. And you could see and you could hear the plish, plash as he ran away from you across the top of the lake, until the gloom enveloped him and he disappeared from your view.
And as he did so, from the further shore, a firework rocket was ignited, and it went whoosh into the air, and high up there it burst into lots of sparks, and all the sparks went out, and he had gone.

"When you look up the stage directions, it says, 'Exit Ariel.”

Eleven years ago, I wrote to Tom Stoppard to ask about this coup de théâtre from 1949. It took me down an unexpected rabbit hole - in memory of Stoppard, here's what I found.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.

BREAKING: This is huge news, the EU's equivalent of the 🇺🇸Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

Whoops, used the character’s name in my previous post, but yes, I have no idea where “he’s actually a feminist who respects women” came from.
