A scenic view of the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. The image features colorful historic buildings lining both sides of the canal. A gondola with passengers is seen gently gliding across the water, surrounded by other boats. The sky is bright with scattered clouds.
Prof Robert Nicholls from @tyndallcentre.bsky.social has co-authored a study that says that relocating the city of Venice is among four potential options that could help it adapt to future sea-level rise.

I'm a data scientist @ourworldindata.org and I need help from a botanist or someone local to Kyoto, Japan! 🌸
We present one of the world’s longest climate records: 1,200 years of peak cherry blossom dates in Kyoto.
The researcher who maintained it, Prof. Yasuyuki Aono, sadly passed away last year.

A salt marsh restoration site where restoration is in progress. We see a large area of open soil. It's muddy and there are some puddles. At the edges there are large heaps of sediment which has been removed. These will be taken away later.
We see a restored salt marsh. There is a meandering salt marsh creek filled with some water. On the right side of the creek pioneer vegetation has established. On the left side there is an open mudflat area.
A closer look at the salt marsh shows a very small creek whcih as formed naturally. The edges are covered by glasswort / Salicornia europea. The picture was taken close to the ground, so the small plants appear almost like a dense forest along a mudder river.
Happy #WorldRewildingDay!
The Lower Saxon Wadden Sea National Park's motto has been 'let nature be nature' for 40 years.
We now also focus on actively restoring natural processes to salt marshes which have been affected by articial drainage ditches, e.g. through topsoil removal.
