An outstanding, comprehensive rebuke of AI mania in K-12 by @winterjessica.bsky.social that rounds out by highlighting the growing coalition of parents, educators, and other concerned humans that is working fast and hard to tamp it down.

Jay Bhattacharya, who is best known for ranting about COVID conspiracies and “coverups” for the past 5 years, is now literally suppressing the data on COVID vaccines…because he is an antivaccine hack not a scientist
On a bright blue background, teal text reads “Environmental Justice, Disability Justice, and Climate Justice are one fight.” Underneath, the subheading reads “Climate change and environmental racism are disabling — from extreme heat to super storms, and from fossil fuel extraction to processing.” Below is the teal Disability Culture Lab logo. At the top is a blue circle with two semicircles on either side, with a green geometric shape in the center. The same shape is repeated at the bottom of the slide.
For Earth Day, we must recognize that environmental justice, disability justice, and climate justice are one fight! Climate change and environmental racism are disabling — from extreme heat to super storms, and from fossil fuel extraction to processing. Read more below. (1/4)
Book cover of The Edge of Space-Time by Dr. Chanda Prescod-Weinstein. The cover art is a sphere divided by a middle boundary: on the left is a monochrome back and white collection of swirly half circles. The right is a semicircle of brightly blended rainbow colors.
Had the incredible privilege of going to @chanda.blacksky.app's book talk tonight, in conversation with the ever thoughtful @moyazb.bsky.social. Cannot wait to dig into this wonderfully unique and powerful book:The Edge of Space-Time! 🖖🏼 #BookSky
Hegseth's repeal of universal flu vaccines is nonsense on so many levels, but his claim vaccine mandates were an "era of betrayal" irked me as a historian. Here's my response, in @thebulwark.com this morning;

Case No. 6:25-cv-02409-MTK OPINION AND ORDER STATE OF OREGON, et al., Plaintiffs, V. ROBERT F. KENNEDY, JR., in his official capacity as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, et al., Defendants. KASUBHAI, United States District Judge: Unserious leaders are unsafe. There is nothing more serious than our leaders' dedication to the rule of law so that we might maintain the integrity of our constitutional democracy. This case highlights a leader's unserious regard for the rule of law. This case demonstrates how disregard for the rule of law does not merely result in an abstract infraction. Rather, and tragically, this case is one of a long list of examples of how a leader's wanton disregard for the rule of law causes very real harm to very real people. This Court can and does judge the lawfulness of the process (or lack thereof) by which any policy choice might be made. Here, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., unlawfully issued a declaration threatening to cut federal funding to medical providers who provided gender-affirming care to minors. If such a declaration could have been Page 1 OPINION AND ORDER
6. The opinion was scathing, and called out the Trump administration for flagrant abuse of authority and disdain toward the rule of law. “Unserious leaders are unsafe,” Judge Kasubhai wrote in the opinion’s opening line. “There is nothing more serious than our leaders’ dedication to the rule of law"
1. This weekend, a federal judge permanently blocked funding threats to providers and hospitals that provide trans youth care.
The judge also blocked "any similar policy."
Hospitals have NO excuse and must return to providing care under many blue state laws.

It will be extremely interesting to see what institutions like Fenway Health and NYU Langone do now. The ostensible reason for their ending of youth gender care is now gone - will they resume care for all the trans kids they abandoned?

NEW: Louisiana is asking a federal court to impose nationwide restrictions on mifepristone, a medication used in nearly two-thirds of abortions in the U.S.
Extremist politicians' attacks on abortion are out of touch with science, law, and public opinion.
NEW: i took a look at legislation @sanders.senate.gov is intro'ing today to impose a data center moratorium “until legislation is enacted that safeguards the public from the dangers of AI"
it's a major line in the sand for progressives looking to tie data center opposition w AI safety
“It’s inevitable” “you can’t roll it back” “you just have to accept it”
Crossing state borders for HRT. Insurance denials. Missed surgeries.
U.S. Catholic bishops imposed a ban on all trans healthcare throughout the church's massive networks. That's left working class trans people struggling even more.
Our latest, by @davidforbes.bsky.social are some of their stories:
And in case there was any room for doubt, the Republican coauthor of KOSA explicitly said she expects and hopes the bill to make it harder for queer people to connect with each other and find out they're not alone (as Katelyn says she did here)

From now until the end of March I'm going to be sharing some of my favorite books about Trans Studies (broadly conceived) for #TransRightsReadathon
Major thanks to @melodyschreiber.com for interviewing me about what biology actually says about sex & gender
Unscientific attacks on trans rights are fueled by fascism, not science, and harm all of us - cis or trans

If he's going to get a national profile on the strength of a younger woman's campaign, I'm going to come out and say it: during his short-lived tenure as a math professor, Biss had an inappropriate romantic relationship with one of his undergraduate students. I was that student.
"where are the student protestors now" as if they were not expelled, arrested, threatened, derided, abandoned, and deported. as if we didn't systematically punish what could have been our own next generation of active political leaders. jfc.
Photograph of the conference site, featuring a large wall of windows overlooking a wooded area. On the stage are four colorful seats with throw pillows reserved for the panelists. Above the chairs is a large projector screen displaying the title of the conference in purple and green lettering.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of presenting at Resisting Harm, Building the Future: Beyond Borders & Binaries, hosted by the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership. I‘m grateful for the opportunity to learn from so many incredible educators & activists from around the world!
Things look grim in the markets right now, but at least the U.S. economy wasn’t already being propped up by a massive speculative AI bubble that is highly sensitive to rising energy costs.
It seems all Kansas-issued trans drivers' licenses are invalid, effective tomorrow
It is now illegal for trans people to drive a car until they surrender their license at a DMV (that most will need to drive to) and have it reissued with the wrong gender marker
This was never about woman's sports
As of tonight, licenses of trans people across Kansas are being invalidated en masse, enabling the overnight criminalization of an entire group of people for going about our lives. It’s often said you never know when you’re living through history, so let me assure you: that’s what’s happening now.
This is a reminder that ICE is still in Minnesota, that people still can’t leave their homes, and that funds are starting to run dry.
Please donate if you can. Places like food shelves are struggling to meet the community’s needs.
STOP THE SAVE ACT (Updated)
My new piece is up with lots of info about the SAVE America Act - the version of the SAVE Act that passed the House and is before the Senate this week. This is a MUST READ and then ACT.

Many are appropriately outraged by Altman’s comments here implying that raising a human child is akin to “training” an AI model.
This is part of a broader pattern where AI industry leaders use language that collapses the boundary between human and machine.

Whether as sites of protest, celebration, communal mourning, or remembrance, public parks have always played a vital role in the history of New York City’s LGBTQ+ rights movement. Landmarks like Central Park’s Bethesda Fountain pulse with their own queer history.
A lot of people, including me, were wondering how an IRB could ever approve this study.
The answer is that no IRB did. The person who “signed off” on approval from the only ethics board that reviewed it had resigned three years earlier. His signature was used without his knowledge.
The Epstein administration is covering up the Epstein files.
