What a difference between two winters. ❄️
Snow depth at #GanderWest down to 23 cm this morning after successive days of melting. Max was 112 cm (Feb 25).
For contrast, last winter peaked at just 28 cm SOG… while this season stayed above that mark for 116 consecutive days! #nlwx

Not here for a long stay, but Monday brought the warmest air in a while!
Maximum 19.9°C at St. John’s #YYT today made for the highest temperature since October 9, 2025.
Gander #YQX hit 16.8°C; warmest since October 23.
Now, back to reality... #nlwx
NOAA-21 / VIIRS imagery showing the snow cover beginning to recede from southeastern portions of the island. Also a slice of bare ground through the Codroy Valley.
Plenty of snow remaining elsewhere.

If this verifies: classic #NLwx spring is just around the corner!
Another 7.1 cm of snow last night in #GanderWest brings the total since Oct 1 to 596.1 cm.
Can we make 600 cm? Late-season amounts vary year-to-year, but on average ~20 cm falls during the 2nd half of April and ~10 cm after that.
However, the short-term forecast shows #NLwx turning mild!
Over 20 years for sure
Large Monday morning after the latest step back on the slow march into spring. Snowfall 7.6 cm from early Sunday morning through Sunday night in #GanderWest (10.4 mm water equivalent), bringing the seasonal total to 589 cm since October. ❄️ #nlwx
Two years ago today along the Bay d'Espoir Highway. Only a little over 53 years to go to now until the next one in the area! #nlwx
Snowfall 4.0 cm last night at St. John’s #YYT nudges the total since October past the 500 cm mark; now at 503.6 cm. First time topping 500 since the 2002–03 season. 📈
Meanwhile, 9.1 cm at #GanderWest last night boosts the total here to 581.2 cm since October. ❄️ #nlwx
I had 6 mm liquid worth of a snow and pellet mixture, which only accumulated to 2 cm, after the 7 cm of plain snow which yielded just 5 mm liqud.
Today marks the 5th straight day with a high below freezing at St. John's #YYT.
Makes for longest such streak to occur during April since a 6-day run Apr 1-6, 1993 (which was the longest ever recorded in April).
The record will hold as temps are set to finally climb above 0°C Monday morning. #nlwx
Quick recap of yesterday's snowfall totals, while we await the arrival of tonight's multi-phase weather maker. #nlwx
Blue sky after the snow; final total 9.4 cm in #GanderWest (water equivalent 5.1 mm).
Now a 24 hour break until the next one of the holiday double special! #nlwx
A fluffy coating of fresh snow to kick off this 4th day April. ❄️
Bit more to go yet, but 7.8 cm measured as of 9am in #GanderWest. Water equivalent just 3.6 mm, making for a rather dry ~22:1 snow-to-liquid ratio! #nlwx
About as clear as the views from MODIS get over #NLwx.

Another crisp morning in western Labrador. 🥶
Wind chill bottomed out at -45 at Wabush #YWK; the lowest April value on record (prev -43 on Apr 4, 2018).
Air temp fell to -35.0°C, just the 4th April Tmin ≤ -35°C on record (others: Apr 7, 1969, Apr 4, 2018 & Apr 1, 2026). #nlwx
March didn’t bring the gargantuan monthly snowfall totals seen in some areas earlier this winter, but most locations still posted above-normal amounts.
The biggest exception was Goose Bay, where fair but cold weather was more prominent. #nlwx
=NEW MONTHLY RECORDS=
Wabush, Churchill Falls, Nain, and Makkovik all just recorded their COLDEST MARCH on record. Goose Bay tied its record.

March is now behind us. While it typically brings a modest warm-up over February, that wasn’t necessarily the case this season. 📉
After a relatively mild February, temperatures dropped across most of #NLwx. In much of Labrador, March finished as the coldest month so far in 2026!
Calendar has flipped to April but wintry #NLwx continues. A fresh 7.1 cm of relatively fluffy snow in #GanderWest (water equivalent 6.1 mm) today. Afternoon temperature -6°C, running about nine degrees colder than average for this time of year.
Also makes Mar 29 the new latest-in-season this cold for some of these:
Goose Bay #YYR -31.1°C (prev Mar 17/1976; data since 1942). In fact, prev latest ≤-30°C was Mar 24/1978!
Badger -28.7°C (prev Mar 17/2020; data since 1956).
Mary’s Hr -25.6°C (prev Mar 23/1989; data since 1983)
#nlwx
We might be just 3 days away from the beginning of April, but it wasn’t too late this morning for some locations to record their coldest temperatures of the winter!
In fact, it’s been a couple of years or more since some of these stations saw minimums this low. #nlwx
Temperatures struggled to rise today across #NLwx; a few sites finished off with their lowest daily maximums on record for this late in the season!
Also makes March 28 the new latest date for Nain to fail to climb above -20°C and latest for Rocky Harbour and Englee to not exceed -10°C. 🥶
Bright evening after the rain; 6.5 mm today in #GanderWest — just enough to melt last night’s 5.1 cm of snow, but no real dent in the pre-existing pack.
With well-below-freezing temps ahead this weekend and no major warm-up next week, it’ll be a while before lawns show yet! #nlwx
Preliminary rainfall (thru 4:30 pm). Many saw a few cms of snow precede the rain last night as well:

44 mm (Argentia);
43 mm (Winterland);
41 mm (CBS);
29 mm (St. John's #YYT);
26 mm (Burgeo);
26 mm (Cape Race).
#nlwx
Still a bit of rain before the latest system fully exits, but winds are already trending down after some earlier peaks:
119 km/h (Cape Pine);
117 km/h (Sagona I.);
108 km/h (Argenta);
104 km/h (St. John's #YYT);
96 km/h (Grates Cove);
95 km/h (St. Lawrence).
#nlwx
Lows -39.4°C this morning at Wabush #YWK and -34.6°C at Churchill Falls #ZUM both set new records for coldest temperatures THIS LATE in the season. 🥶
Prev latest ≤-39.4 (YWK): Mar 17, 1976 (data since 1961);
Prev latest ≤-34.6 (ZUM): Mar 23, 1978 (data since 1968).
#nlwx
Latest snow event now in the books. Brings the season-to-date total (since October) to 546.1 cm for #GanderWest and 457.8 for St. John's #YYT.
Not sure who wants to hear it, but on average St. John's sees another 40-50 cm after March 25, and Gander another 60-70 cm. ❄️ #nlwx
Crisp March 25th morning for the cleanup (-8°C). Final total 21 cm in #GanderWest (water equivalent 16.7 mm). #nlwx
Always count on the wraparound to deliver a boost; 7 cm past four hours, bringing #GanderWest to 16 cm as of 8:30 pm. Also back into a more fluffy variety; total SWE now at 14.3 mm (the last 7 cm yielded 5.3 mm water).
More to come before this finishes up later tonight. #nlwx
