Bright evening after the rain; 6.5 mm today in #GanderWest — just enough to melt last night’s 5.1 cm of snow, but no real dent in the pre-existing pack.

Latest snow event now in the books. Brings the season-to-date total (since October) to 546.1 cm for #GanderWest and 457.8 for St. John's #YYT.

Not sure who wants to hear it, but on average St. John's sees another 40-50 cm after March 25, and Gander another 60-70 cm. ❄️ #nlwx

Only 5.4 mm of rain fell during the thaw in #GanderWest, so it was mainly warm temps, humidity, and wind that did a number on the snowpack.

Now averaging 44 cm depth as the refreeze begins (equating to roughly half of the 90 cm that was on ground just after Sunday’s snowfall). #nlwx

Took a full core sample of snowpack in #GanderWest before pending thaw.

Avg depth 104 cm has yielded 279.1 mm water equivalent. Also some ice underneath that couldn't be cored (maybe another 30-50 mm worth of water).

Most should end up in the ground in the coming weeks! #nlwx

Into some milder air today after the latest batch of snow. Picked up 12 cm overnight through this morning in #GanderWest. Was relatively fluffy with water equivalent just 7.4 mm, but compacting quickly with the increasing temperature. Reading 2.5°C at 1 pm. #nlwx

A fairly constant snowfall rate for the past several hours has put us at 19.7 cm in #GanderWest as of 6pm. SWE 19.3 mm, so it has been trending towards a more dense nature.

Not getting anywhere near the accums that areas further east are reporting, but it's rather drifty in #GanderWest with temp still below zero. Also had 0.5 mm of preceding freezing drizzle overnight to make surfaces slippery.

On average we see another ~180 cm after mid-February, so unless there’s a dramatic shift, we should have no trouble exceeding the seasonal normal of 443 cm. May happen soon! #nlwx
