I have been running the Norfolk Crucian Project since 2008. We have genuinely saved this fish species from extinction in the wild in Norfolk & have benefitted many other species (& people!) along the way. We think we have increased #crucian carp distribution by >40-50%. But onwards & upwards!!!

Points vs. passes: A comparison between electric fishing techniques for sampling fish populations in upland headwater streams Point-abundance sampling by electric fishing (PASE) was compared with single-pass (DF1) and triple-pass depletion sampling (DF3) electric fishing on the same reaches of four headwater streams sampled...

Excited to share our paper comparing density estimations for electrofishing techniques (point abundance sampling estimation vs depletion fishing) in upland streams🐟 doi.org/10.1111/jfb..... It was a privilege to be part of the upcoming Special Issue honouring the work of the late Gordon Copp.

The Norfolk #Crucian Carp project has been running since 2008. #Crucians are declining throughout their European range including in England. Only in Norfolk is the species on the up. Since its start the project has increased its distribution by a massive 40% @fishtwitcher.bsky.social #crucians2026

Surprising piece of information: on average, European eel reach sexual maturity at large age than any whale species. And certainly much older than any other exploited fish species.
That's why short-term measures are not useful. Eels need a moratorium mimicking the whaling ban

And they say #Norfolk is flat. In Stody village, North Norfolk (eastern England) there are rolling glacial hills reminiscent of Transylvania. At night dark beasts wander the grasslands hunting human prey. True wilderness

Old meander pattern seen in receding floodwaters on a floodplain.

Old meander pattern seen in receding floodwaters on a floodplain.

Old meander pattern is revealed as flood waters are left in topographic lows on the floodplain during flood recession. Great information for river restorers. River Wissey, Norfolk, England

Seeds and Fruits of Aquatic Plants of Northern Europe - A Handbook This book offers essential insights for identifying aquatic plant remains, enhancing research in palaeoecology and freshwater biology.

This looks like a corking book to me. Who needs New Nature writing when you can relax & sleep to this fine book for hard core botanists?
