When we were parked a family came up to meet the dogs (not knowing why we were at the local park). Cast and Cookie enjoyed some snuggles and got to educate about the local mushing scene!

Update: Fire is completely out, the final acreage count is 26 acres burned.

We’re forcasted some rain and snow today! 🤞

The fire department used a helicopter and grabbed water from the stream in our backyard. I guess that beaver dam was a good thing after all!

Non stop fire traffic all evening.

I left before it got closer. I could hear the trees crashing down. My partner stayed behind with the house and I took the dogs in the trailer to the local community center to avoid smoke inhalation. It was thick when we left!

The dogs before we left. They were confused on why we weren’t doing play time.

The dogs got an ‘A+’ for their unplanned fire drill today. A brush fire right across the street got out of hand, only a few hundred feet from the dog yard.

While the fire stayed across the road, the smoke got bad so I evacuated the dogs.

We are all safe, and the fire has been put out.

BMO waiting not so patiently for his treat, with the new lights in the back. They are solar powered, perfect for our ‘off grid’ dog yard.

I put up new lights in the dog yard. I only bought 2 strings, I want to see how long they last before investing in the whole yard. They supposedly can withstand rain, wind, snow, freezing temps… so we shall see. The dog yard is becoming a cozy little spot!

If we had a ‘true spring’ I think it wouldn’t be as hard. We seem to go from mucky snow and mud right into summer.

Cookie doesn’t mind the weather change. She says she can hike in any weather. Mud, snow, rain, shine, bring it on. Her human is tired of the mud and off weather, however.

Are spring blues a thing?? No snow for sled, too warm for ATV runs, too muddy with feet of odd piles of snow for hiking… I have so many projects that I can’t touch until the ground is thawed.

I fear I am ready for summer.

Building trust with dogs takes time. But when there is trust on both ends, then, and only then, can a true relationship start to form.

3 sled dog shaped cookies and a poorly executed sled cookie

This was a 4 dog team of Alaskan Cookies…. But we had to drop (eat) one.

He’s the Siberian that most folks need. He’s the bestest.

Queso and Jake in lead. Jake really wanted to keep going here. If it were up to him, we would’ve ran another 20 before stopping.

Weekend adventures. I scouted out a good winter camp spot. We’ll probably lose the snow before I have the chance to camp, but I’m excited for next year!

I dropped the dogs on their gangline but Dovah instantly took to chewing, so I’ll have to look into getting a cable drop line.
