I’d like to know, too!

I’ve had a wonderful experience so far, and I don’t recognize the place described in that article. But it also doesn’t surprise me that a staff writer for the National Review would rather attend a different school.
CBQ is hosting an online book review and discussion of Mahri Leonard-Fleckman’s excellent new book on scribes this Wednesday, Sept 10th, at 10:00AM EDT. I’ll be there! Register to join: www.catholicbiblical.org/meetings/ubr...
I look forward to it — but I hope you get some rest before then!
Some news that’s both personal and professional: I’ll be an Associate Professor of Old Testament at Princeton Theological Seminary in the fall. We’ve relocated to New Jersey, and are glad to see old friends and meet now ones.
Walter Brueggemann: rest in peace. I’m grateful to have known him, and I’m honored to have followed him at CTS. May his memory be a blessing.
Haha, well let’s hope that all of the different mighty reds make lots of great decisions in the coming days—about signing new talent and building upon recent successes
Congrats! And Liverpool winning the league — it’s really all been turning up Siobhán lately
It’s really true, though. It seems like the gate-keeping has even increased in recent years. And it’s surprising (but common for me!) to receive two reviews, one of which says “nothing new here” and the other says “this is a radical intervention and I don’t agree with it, so reject.”
Sounds excellent
Excellent! I’ll look forward to reading it.
did Lucifer write this?
William Yoo’s new book, “Reckoning with History,” launches tonight. It is an important study of the impact of settler colonialism and racism on the American church. Check it out here: a.co/d/c34Cf0O
What’s up Russell
Congrats—looking forward to reading it!
This is an excellent discussion of something that’s causing an increasing number of problems — including the erosion of public spaces, the very notion of the public good, and democracy itself.
I mean let’s not get docetic over here
Just re-watched “Children of Men,” and I think it’s my favorite Christmas movie
Yonatan, thanks for these helpful threads. What do you think of Sylvie Honigman and Ehud Ben Zvi’s arguments in HeBAI about the spread of a Torah-focused identity from Yehud to Egypt in the 3rd century? www.mohrsiebeck.com/en/article/t...
On a different note, if you want to read a book about the Ptolemaic Economy, I have a draft to share. I know it’s your favorite topic (besides your love for the Dem establishment’s tried-and-true tactics)
But maybe it just hasn’t worked *yet* Andrew
All to say, I think it’s crucial to keep funding faculty travel budgets, and looking to the future, we will likely have to defend their value and impact in ever more detailed and persuasive ways.
In the security line at the airport on my way out of town, I spoke with someone whose scholarship is important for my work, and for years I wanted to connect, but had never met. I appreciate the power and convenience of online conversations, but these encounters are not really possible on Zoom.
There were so many chance encounters led to great conversations at the SBL meeting last week. I’m deeply sorry for those who, due to health, money, family obligations, and many other reasons, could not attend. But density of physical proximity generates possibilities that would not occur otherwise.

Are you not here? Was just about to text you to see if you wanted to get a coffee sometime
After a string of great papers, took a couple hours out of the day to walk along the beach in La Jolla and enjoy the sea lions and seals. Amazing! #sblaar24
And why the identity of the twelve tribes was so amazingly consistent
This is a great idea!
