I've updated the SBL & AAR feed to now include #AARSBL25 and #SBLAAR25
These are in addition to #aar #sbl #aarsbl #sblaar #aarsbl24 #sblaar24 - going forward I will keep the current and previous years suffixes as options.
Finally put my presentation for The Lazy Academic as Resistance (to Capitalism) up on Academia. www.academia.edu/126847179/AA... I got a lot of email requests for it, so here you go. I suppose the tags would be #sblaar24 #longcovid #academicsky #disabilitytheology

I have some #SBLAAR24 reflections, but I returned from San Diego and went straight to work the next day (would not recommend). Is it too late now? On my last day in SD, I took a 10-mile tourist run through Balboa Park and other lovely parts of the city. Here are some of my favourite shots:
While changing planes on my way home from #SBLAAR24, I received confirmation that I'll be on sabbatical for 2025-26. This'll finally give me the chance to finish my book on Augustine & migration. Feeling grateful. Let me know if you have any leads on grants, fellowships, etc.!
Book with roman frieze as cover; CRIMINALIZATION IN ACTS OF THE APOSTLES: RACE, RHETORIC, AND THE PROSECUTION OF AN EARLY CHRISTIAN MOVEMENT by Jeremy L. Williams
book open in a book holder beside my laptop with beginning draft of a book review
Jeremy Williams's book is EXCELLENT! I'm working on a review now, but highly recommend it to #sblaar #aarsbl #sblaar24 folks!

Conference Recap #SBLAAR24
A short pile of books sitting on a wooden countertop. Titles include “Post-Traumatic Jesus”, “Resurrecting Wounds”, “After the Worst Day Ever”, and “Crippled Grace”
A belated photo of my small #SBLAAR24 book haul, all on trauma and disability. If you follow me elsewhere, you may remember that I posted early in the year about my daughter.
Early in 2024, we suddenly discovered that she has a rare disorder connected to the severe birth trauma we both endured 🧵/
we got to preview part of this book during RCO’s open session at #sblaar24, and y’all, it’s going to be great! like shakes up scholarly orthodoxies great.
"Religion" is best defined as those things that people commonly refer to the when they talk about "religion" #sblaar24
At #sblaar24, Marvin Wiser gave a great paper on how the "return migration" of Ezra/Nehemiah could actually be a change in Persian Imperial policy - and they were being deported. This, I believe, is a much better way of actually using the term properly.
Who else is slowly emerging from an avalanche of emails post #SBLAAR24? Take me back! ☀️🏝️
Return jetlag from #sblaar24, 9 hour time difference between San Diego and Amsterdam : I feel as awake at 3 am as a prophet and as dead at 3pm as the Buddha reaching paranirvana
Happy book birthday Appalling Bodies!

I'm so glad with how well the #SBL #AAR feed worked for #SBLAAR24 and beyond. I only had to bump a handful of users out for using the hashtags for other things (trains, video games, and biology). The feed will keep going between things, so feel free to keep sharing and following along.
An old cartoon square, with the superhero sidekick robin getting smacked (you cannot see his face) by superhero Batman with two dialogue boxes above. Robin is saying “they were deported”, and Batman is saying “stop that’s the wrong term I beg you to stop.”
Because some of ya'll need to hear this in Biblical Studies and migration work, here's the meme I made for my #SBLAAR24 presentation this year. *Let's be intentional about our word choices, okay?
Me, holding Candida Moss's book: God's Ghostwriters, while sitting on my sister's couch under a pink Disney princesses blanket.
#sblaar24 aftermath: look what just arrived for me at my american sister's place in Florida: "God's Ghostwriters", by @candidamoss.bsky.social. can't wait to start reading, the latest on the flight home! The book panel session on it was one of my highlights at SBL!
🔴 Going live in about 90min to chat with @drkippd.bsky.social about this year's #SBLAAR24 conference!

Had my first #sbl experience this year at #sblaar24. Also gave my first SBL paper. The Chronicles-Ezra-Nehemiah section was engaging and encouraging. Looking forward to next year in Boston.
Also my first time on the West Coast. The cliffs are amazing at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park.
A good conf for our Dept & alums. #sblaar24

These are the days I download and read promising papers I missed at #sblaar24 . If you did not upload yours to the web, now is your chance.
Stack of books. The Mary We Forgot - McNutt Nobody Mother - Glahn Priests of History The Biblical Hebrew Verb - Cook Habakkuk - Susan Maxwell Booth Transformed into the Same Image - Copan and Reardon Ancient Texts for the Study of the Hebrew Bible - Sparks NIV Upside Down Kingdom Bible Noncanonical Influences on the New Testament
It’s wonderful getting to participate in the traditional #sblaar24 book haul photo! And I only bought 2 of these. Very excited to get into these when the jet lag clears—starting with the Cook book!
Additional books picked up at the annual meeting.
Additional books I picked up at #SBLAAR24, not counting the one on Theodotion Daniel that Brill lost. Favorite book is the one on Zoroastrianism; it puts the various layers in the Avesta in a historical perspective. Must read for anyone interested in Iranian influence on ANE literature and cultures.
At #SBLAAR24 I purchased an introduction and primer to Young Avestan, so I look forward to learning a different branch of IE.
