This era of iPod was perfection. They got everything right, and nothing wrong

I’m surprised the #ArtemisII mission isn’t really being covered by news websites and probably lacks awareness from non-geeks…

We’ve just flung four humans towards the Moon for the first time in 50 years, this is kind of a big moment? But it hasn’t cut through to most people #Artemis2 #NASA

Assuming all of those costs would add up to a few hundred million, could you make PT completely free permanently in Victoria for not much more than the $3.2B currently spent?

Commuters to travel free on public transport for a month Myki gates will be left open for a month from Tuesday as the state government steps up efforts to encourage motorists to catch public transport.

I think this is a good idea.

The article notes that Vic public transport costs $3.2B to run, and collects ~$700M in ticket fares.

If you got rid of tickets completely you wouldn’t need myki, readers, station barriers, officers… wonder how much that would save?

Heroism, horror and the ‘pits of hell’: inside the last days of El Fasher Over two days in October 2025, up to 10,000 people are believed to have been massacred; a further 40,000 civillians from the Sudanese city are still unaccounted for. This is the story of what happened

This is a very difficult but important read.

Whilst the western world is focussed on the conflicts in Ukraine, Palestine, and now Iran, we have wilfully ignored the horrors of Sudan.

Thousands of civilians slaughtered, and no-one seems to care.

I suspect the next phase of the #SAvotes election is going to be endless whinging from right wingers about how 20% of the primary vote appears to have only won One Nation 2 seats… as if preferential voting is somehow an “unfair” system

The airport is still called Ayers Rock - I think I recall this was at the request of the traditional owners (eg only Uluṟu is Uluṟu, not the surrounding hotels or airports)

After all the prevaricating from the Government, it was refreshing to read a clear assertion from an expert: these actions are illegal

LOL when I was a teenager I actually owned a flame-speckled Charvel of this vintage with a reverse headstock… not my finest hour

Some absolutely appalling videos emerging of NSW Police actions last night. Repeatedly punching restrained people, dragging people away who were praying (!?).

People weren’t rioting, they were just trying to march. The Police brought the violence.

Utterly indefensible @chrisminnsmp.bsky.social

Kinda cool they managed to print the symbols rather than just call the album “Led Zeppelin IV” like everyone else did

Watching a livestream of the MFA shows what its rally about.

Chants of “foreigners out”, “send them back”, and overhearing a guy joking they should take over Vic Parliament House “like they did at the White House on January 6” (yes he got the building wrong)

It’s actually been cool to see everyone post their fave Midnight Oil videos in the last day… there are some great 80s gigs captured on YouTube I hadn’t ever seen before

Vale Rob Hirst.

I grew up in the 90s and so didn’t really dig Midnight Oil during the era of alternative music. Then I saw them live at a festival gig and was blown away by how great they were.

There is no other drummer who could make that band sound like they did.

This is cool - their first TV performance on the classic Letterman late night show. I’ve always liked Radio Free Europe and this is a good version youtu.be/dW62Q0TTgS0?...

Popped out to buy dinner ingredients in this crazy 40C+ weather, and could barely stand to be outside for 10 minutes.

I have absolutely no idea how firefighters manage to do their job on days like today - they absolutely deserve our thanks

My parents decided to buy their first air con unit when they came home on a hot day and I was just lying in a starfish pose on the kitchen tiles! I think I’d been there for an hour or more

This is an excellent thread if you’re anxious about SE Australia’s upcoming heatwave and don’t have access to / the financial ability to run your own air con

I’m self-sufficient nowadays, but as a teenager HATED the heat and had no way to escape it. I dreaded Summer.

I don’t support the ban but I think the HC challenge is a bit tenuous… I’d be surprised if the HC found our rights to political communication require all forms of communicating to be accessible just in case someone wants to use them for political discussion

Still, the lawyers are smarter than I!
