It's why I tend to be a bit sceptical when a books claims to be applicable to all writing. That said, I liked Imaginative Writing: The Elements of Craft by Janet Burroway. It was the recommended reading for a creative writing course I did a few years ago, but covers a lot without being definitive

I think it's because Truby is ultimately a screenwriter, who as far as I can tell primarily writes for film. Which is a very different kind of writing than novels or comics or even theatre
