Our explorations indicated a link between the sensorimotor process captured in the lab and smartphone interaction intervals captured on the phone, the link was time-variant! Smartphone interactions gathered about 10 days prior to the lab visit were most strongly linked!

The details of past actions on a smartphone touchscreen are reflected by intrinsic sensorimotor dynamics - npj Digital Medicine npj Digital Medicine - The details of past actions on a smartphone touchscreen are reflected by intrinsic sensorimotor dynamics

In the second study, we got curious about the details of smartphone behavior. Towards this, Enea Ceolini (then a MSc student) helped us develop an App that captured smartphone touchscreen interaction timings across all apps with a milisecond precision. doi.org/10.1038/s417...

Our brains are being 'continuously reshaped' by smartphone use Extensive use of smartphone touchscreens is changing the sensory relationship between our brains and our thumbs, a study published in Current Biology has revealed

Some ideas we expressed in this #Wired piece are still in works in our current laboratory at @unileiden.bsky.social www.wired.com/story/touchs...

Smartphone users have an enhanced thumb sensory representation in the brain

The brain activity is proportional to use accumulated over the previous 10 days

An episode of intense use is transiently imprinted on the sensory representation
