I'm doing a course on material rendering that my work colleagues recommended. This is from week 1/8, stone and wood.

I really like my wooden block. The stone not as much, I wasn't really feeling it when I painted the stone. Maybe I'll redo it.

I've done work since these, but this'll have to do for my #potfolioday. Multiple examples animating side by side for these sites is unfortunately a huge pain.

I'll be uploading all my stuff there over a long period of time. It's not meant to be professional, but simply an archive

I want to archive all my art on a gallery page somewhere. Preferably something "old" and stable that I can be reasonably sure will be online for decades to come

My old Artstation already has a big chunk of my old art so I've converted it into a "Shadow realm" account www.artstation.com/hanulinen

At the same time the reality is that a professional portfolio likely shouldn't contain those ancient art pieces 😅 Actual portfolios should probably only contain art that represents you professionally

I'm always so happy when I look at an artist's old work and at the bottom there is some shoddy attempt they drew as a kid. Looking at the timeline of growth gives me hope and I'd like to be an example like that as well.

Some days in the past I've felt discouraged that all the artists I follow seem to only have awesome work up and it feels like they have always been skilled.

Much later did I realize that people of course often show their best work only and even delete their old works when they outgrow them

I have a had really fragmented art presence online since somewhere around 2010 or so. There are a slew of pieces scattered around Deviantart, twitter, bluesky, cara, artstation, reddit and some that are just on my personal drive and much more that are gathering dust in the attic.

I'm a freelance artist and I love drawing fantasy!

In this digital illustration, Howl and Sophie from "Howl's Moving Castle" stand in the doorway of the castle. We can see different skies through different windows, a nod to how the castle travels. Calcifer the blue fire demon smiles from the fireplace. Pots and pans hang from the mantle. The shelves have potions and books. A drawer full of spells and magical things is on the other side of the doorway. Herbs hang from the ceiling. Howl's guitar leans against the wall, and Sophie's hats hang above it.
