New homes sought for public garden aviary birds. Forty-eight birds in two public gardens aviaries seek caring homes.

#nzbirds Jimmy the sulphur-crested cockatoo is being rehomed. We walk past him every day and will be sad to see him go!

Hopefully someone can give him a good home.

Picked up a bucket of sanguine peaches from a lady in town, time to freeze them all so we can make crumble all winter 😋.

Going to throw all the seeds down the back of the garden and hopefully start our own tree.

Bread trays lined with newspaper are holding single layers of walnuts. There is a fan behind them blowing air to speed up the drying time.

A red crate sits on a lawn with a wire doofer looped over one long side. Inside the crate: walnuts. Prob 15kg so far and a small fraction of what's so far come off the tree (and eek a smaller fraction of what's yet to come off the tree!!)

My boots, walnuts on the grass. Their husks are laying around too in varying colours from green to brown to black.

Wider shot across the lawn, many walnuts visible and damnit MORE invisible amongst the grass

Bonus.. I'm wearing a woollen knitted colour work hat which is cream and variegated purple and more bucket shaped than beanie. It has penguins on it.

Hey there #nzbirds team - anybody know where we could find a schematic for a kākā nesting box like they use in Prince O.W. park in Wellington?

Yes haha! Only spent 10 minutes trapped before they freed me 😅

The staff managed to free me thankfully! At least it's a pretty nice one as far as public loos go

Involuntary haha. The screwdriver was from the garden staff trying to break me out.

Toni let me pick her up on the tray! My arms got tired before she got sick of the ride 😅.

We collected some quinces from the tree in the public gardens this morning and I'm turning them in to quince jelly and paste today.

The jelly is starting to turn red, and the foam is getting pink. Once that's done I'll take out the remaining fruit to turn into paste.
