4) In small populations and especially when there are severe penalties for homozygosity, however, random mating systems are more likely to persist and polygyny does especially badly, the latter because of the reduced Ne that polygyny causes, leading to rapid loss of genetic diversity.

3) We find a complex relationship between mating system and evolutionary rescue. When populations are large or the cost of homozygosity is low then mate-choice polygyny is the best, with mutual choice monogamy intermediate.

1) New manuscript preprint up: we model adaptation to changing environments under mating systems ranging from random mating via mutual choice monogamy through to female choice polygyny. 🧪www.biorxiv.org/content/10.64898/2026.03...

The second chapter of my PhD is now available as a preprint 🦚. A lot of it came together during long days in front of my blue screen, and weekends spent watching puffins in the UK. With an amazing team @robknell.bsky.social @jacek-radwan.bsky.social Jonathan Parrett and @ecologycoder.bsky.social

🌿🐛 The UK’s uplands are facing major land-use change as part of net-zero strategies.

Franky Rogers explores how afforestation and peatland restoration could affect biodiversity using a multi-taxa approach across 1600+ invertebrates.🗺️ 🌱

We've been at #BES2025 all week and have loved hearing how citizen science and biological recording can support research and conservation policy; biodiversity data needs for Scotland’s nature recovery and how the global ecological community accesses, uses & shares data. We're in the Lennox Suite!

Poll: Majority of Brits support renewables, but think their neighbours disagree with them Major poll reveals 70 per cent of Brits would back a new solar farm in their local area, but only 27 per cent think that other people would support such a development

Most Brits want climate action but think their neighbours don't. Most Brits support renewable energy but think their neighbours don't.

This is the work of relentless misinformation by our right-wing press and the oiligarchy.

Do you have knowledge or expertise in taxonomic groups found in the UK’s uplands? I’m looking for naturalists to contribute to autecological analysis as part of a #biodiversity audit assessing impacts of land-use change across eight of northern England’s protected landscapes 1/4

Hi Darren, thanks for this - hoverfly knowledge would be very useful! Could you DM me the best email to get hold of you in the near future? Thanks!

Presumably the same account that’s changed usernames but if not, there’s another to report and block. Very strange!

A bit daunting when I realised quite how many people were in the audience, especially as I was talking about career plans changing due to chronic illness. I wrote it with my past-self in mind, so hopefully it will help some students in a similar position.

Had a great time at a 6th form STEM conference last week talking to students from Folkestone and Dover grammar schools about my career path from A-Level to now!

- Forest of Bowland National Landscape,
- Lake District National Park,
- Nidderdale National Landscape,
- Northumberland National Park,
- North Pennines National Landscape,

To understand potential winners and losers of land management options, multi-taxa analysis is being conducted using biological records from the protected landscapes highlighted on the map. If you have data in these areas, please contact franky.rogers@uea.ac.uk 3/4

This #BiodiversityAudit will collate management requirements for invertebrates and plants found in the landscape. For this, validation and autecological input is needed to capture the knowledge not found in literature. Willing to contribute? DM or ✉️ franky.rogers@uea.ac.uk 2/4
