Yesterday we hosted an event at @foodmuse.bsky.social, discussing #housing 's role in #nature recovery.
It brought together housing associations, local government, consultants and NGOs.
Speakers included @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social, @wendlingbeck.bsky.social & @southernhousing.bsky.social.

Did you know... magnolia evolved on earth about 95 million years ago!
Magnolia is so old in fact that it pre-dates the existence of bees and butterflies, meaning they relied on beetles to pollinate in their early days.
Our Gardening Team have been working with our #Arboriculture Team to protect green spaces from car damage by using logs from felled trees. Creating dead wood habitat for invertebrates and reducing waste. Great example of green space management for #nature and people.

We recently held sessions with @gardenorganicuk.bsky.social for our in-house gardening teams. The sessions covered techniques to boost biodiversity in green spaces and garden sustainably & gave them an opportunity to get stuck in planting hedge plants and wildflower seeds.
Our research group looks at a broad range of topics, is fairly diverse in terms of views, approaches and demographic characteristics. But we will continue to strictly enforce our "no Nazis" rule.
The paper looks at the timings of 1 or 2 cuts for the year (with those cuts timed between June and November), whereas No Mow May campaigns are typically targeted at gardeners or grounds maintenance teams that could be cutting lawns & verges every 2/3 weeks during spring-summer.
This hit home!

This week the government quietly published a 'Global biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and national security assessment': www.gov.uk/government/p...
Meant to be out last year, but rumoured to be blocked by Number 10: www.theguardian.com/environment/...
The judgements are stomach-churning
Thank you!
4. Is it acceptable to do a UK #PhD mostly/fully remotely to avoid relocating?
5. Can you live in the UK and complete a PhD for a foreign university remotely (I see the living allowance in other countries can sometimes be more than in the UK)?
Thank you for any responses!
(3/3)
1. How affordable is a doing a #PhD with mortgage, childcare, family life?
2. Do PhD time commitments realistically work with family life?
3. Can you switch between full-time and part-time during a PhD, if you start one way or the other (to do alongside another job)?
(2/3)
Advice needed! Since finishing my Masters (back in 2017), doing a #PhD has always been a thought in the back of my mind. With life/family circumstances, there hasn't been a 'right time' to consider doing one. However I would really appreciate any advice on the following questions. (1/3)
Good write up on how Flagship's gardening teams are making habitat creation part of the everyday work (rather than an add on) so actions for #nature in residential spaces are delivered at scale and pace.

It really wasn't that long ago that my friday nights were for partying and now they're for going into my garden with a torch to flick slugs off my plants.
New to Bluesky- I'm a #biodiversity manager in social #housing, working for #nature recovery & improving access to nature, by adapting grounds maintenance methods, implementing projects, working with #BNG & spreading awareness. Always open for discussions and collaboration if anyone is interested!
Was great to invite representatives from housing, land management, consultancy, and #nature conservation to a work event last week about #biodiversity in social housing, and talk about the work we're dong.
