Starmer should immediately & unequivocally ban access to British airspace to US warplanes. The UK should not be accomplice to a US President who is threatening more war crimes. Period.

The Dons of Aberdeen are DOG tired with cuts🐕
And Dundee are MEGA DONE with redundancies @ducuuo.bsky.social (they don't have a mascot just a 📣)

Joining the Heriot-Watt UCU picket line earlier today, where staff of the Languages and Intercultural Studies department and the team at Scholar are under threat of compulsory redundancies. Redundancies would be tantamount to dismantling these incredibly important programme.
@hwucu.bsky.social
Solidarity to all our colleagues at Heriot-Watt, also on strike today to say no to compulsory redundancies.

We’ll be gathering outside the Tower Building this morning from 10-11am to ask why the University of Dundee is continuing with Jon cuts and forecasting redundancies.
Anyone can join us to support this peaceful rally.

I’m embarrassed by my union. Sort it out @ucu.org.uk
This is a thread about UCU & what it has become over the last few years. But the first thing I want to say is I didn’t join a union to stay silent or turn my back on a single parent of three facing dismissal on the basis of their trade union activities. Marie Monaghan is the Unite UCU 1/12
🚨 FIFTH consecutive vote for industrial action 🚨
🔥 Two week ballot window
🔥 75% turnout
🔥 73% YES to strike action
🔥 81% YES to ASOS
Our members will not tolerate victimisation and won’t be intimidated.
UCU staff are not the enemy. It’s beyond time for the GS to talk to us.

In August, in a meeting with the Scottish Gov, Nigel Seaton stated that it was “necessary to be clear with staff what redundancies would likely be needed now.”
The University Recovery Plan he drafted stated there would need to be 340 redundancies.
Yesterday he told staff there are no plans.
When meeting students this week the Interim Principal thinks the deficit is £24m (£2m a month).
The interim Director of Finance told staff last week that it’s £15m.
The Chair of Court was in the meeting with students. She didn’t issue a correction.
Are they happy with miscommunication?
Have you seen this? Reform UK has just pledged to rip up legal protections for workers and renters. I'm really worried about it. I've signed a petition to stop the steal. Can you add your name too? www.megaphone.org.uk/petitions/st...

Solidarity to all colleagues at Herriot-Watt. An amazing turnout!
Solidarity with colleagues at Stirling who are striking over the threat to jobs.
That’s three branches in two days who are joining others on the picket lines or in dispute across the Scottish university sector!
Check out the coverage in THE, and stay tuned.
It's an uphill battle + taken nearly 2 years for the union watchdog to hold a hearing. Grady's using union money to hire a pricey KC, so the odds are against us. But we will fight to win for our colleagues.

Utterly disgusted by this.
11 January 2023, Grady tells UCU senior managers in secret WhatsApp group chat "every single decision we make/thing we do has to be seen through the below lense... Re-elect GS".
11 January 2023, in response to Grady's instruction that everything UCU does has to be "Re-elect GS", a senior manager replies "And has been, hopefully"
🚨🧵The 2024 UCU General Secretary was so corrupt that @vickyblake.bsky.social + I are fighting a Certification Officer case to re-run it, 10 Feb. Grady won by 182 votes from 114,310 members, turnout 15%.
In secret, Grady ordered UCU managers to "Re-elect GS" +said she'd "destroy" her opponents...
The @timeshighered.bsky.social has reported that @ewanmg.bsky.social and I have applied to the Certification Officer regarding concerns over the 2024 UCU general secretary election. UCU has characterised this as “smearing”, via a spokesperson.

A true reflection of what university staff feel about the current Higher Education crisis.
