A sunflower lanyard with a card that says I am autistic

Today, on #WorldAutismAwarenessDay, I’m wearing my sunflower lanyard (usually reserved for airports). I’m using my privileges to help make hidden disabilities more visible.
I’m celebrating the way my brain is wired. 💛🌻

A hall filled with book stalls
A panel talk
A penguin book display
I got to go to the London Book Fair yesterday, what fun! Really interesting talks about AI, responsibility and of course, we were surrounded by books! I also felt very lucky to see the wonderful @alisonhicks0.bsky.social chair an important panel on Book Banning (w/Juno Dawson!!)
Of course @jofitz.bsky.social @playbrarian.uk @nedpotter.bsky.social got a mention (and although @alisonhicks0.bsky.social may not have been explicitly mentioned post the edit, she was mentioned quite a few times…) as people who have been so influential and integral to my journey 💗
New episode alert!
I had the absolute joy of joining Chatting Info Lit and to talk about my dissertation: what I researched, what surprised me, and how it still shapes the way I think about information literacy today.

‘The alchemist saw himself operating on multiple levels of reality. By examining the behaviour of metals, he hoped to gain insight not only into their material properties but into the most profound mysteries of the universe.’

I still can't believe how many people attended this talk! It was an incredible experience.

Got to be repping the ‘tism, even when working from home. #Unmasked #UnmaskingAutism
@nlisn.bsky.social is collecting case studies, to showcase stories from our network and show others like us that they are not alone.
Share your story with us, big or small, about what you’ve learned, the support you’ve found, or how the network has made a difference.

It's quite hard to be autistic in a neurotypical world. I've been experiencing autistic burnout like never before at the moment, but something that's helped is seeing other Autistics, AuDHDer's, and ADHDer's talk about their experiences on here. (Having a brilliant supervisor helps too).
This is the first time I've been cited, what an honour to have it be about a topic as important as this one! An excellent read.
We will be closing our representation statistics survey at some point in the next month, and we have already heard from more than 1000 neurodivergent librarians! #librarians #neurodiversity

A glass award engraved with NLISN details
Huge thankyou to CILIP Disability Network for awarding NLISN this Accessibility Award, which has now safely arrived in the post! We won as an organisation so although Jo and Andy are named, this award is for all of us. The committee, the network and all our allies. #cilip #libraries #accessibility
And that sums up the first NLISN AGM! I may be biased, but @jofitz.bsky.social and @playbrarian.uk are brilliant humans. Thank you to all the members of the committee, and the network, who are helping us neurodivergent folks know we're not alone in this big old library world! @nlisn.bsky.social
I had a *big* organisation refuse to give me them a couple of times... It was a shock! I didn't want to self-disclose so we compromised with giving "themes" of the interview. They tried, I guess?
I love how compassionate and empathetic @christinemmoe.bsky.social is as they present: reminders to take a breath, check if you're physically and emotionally comfortable before moving forward are such brilliant tools. ##NLISNTakeCareOfYourself
I've been really excited for the latest @nlisn.bsky.social event, Christine Moeller's talk about the workplace experiences of neurodivergent librarians! #NLISNTakeCareOfYourself
I’ve been on a streak of brilliant reads lately (Her Majesty’s Royal Coven, Butter, and Yellowface). Just finished Chris Whitaker’s All the Colours of the Dark and I’m obsessed. As in, I read it in 5 hours and nearly cried, obsessed. Anyone else? #Allthecoloursofthedark
On 2/9/25 we have the @christinemmoe.bsky.social giving a #free online talk:
“You deserve to take care of yourself”
This is based on findings from a #research project on the #workplace experiences of #neurodivergent #librarians

Lovely @playbrarian.uk is running a brilliant webinar on the 8th of Sep! Would definitely recommend going. To quote myself: "Find out more of what it's like to be in my brain! (Phantom of the Opera/Stormzy constant backing track not included)"

Nothing more humbling than being asked if you’re “really” over 18 by charity people and then the Face Verification not working for BlueSky. (I also get ID’d for Red bull a lot). I JUST HAVE A BABY FACE OK (I’m 26).
This is one of my key indicators if I'm getting close to burnout/NEED a low sensory day- books and reading are my special interest, so if I can't read, then:

We've (@nlisn.bsky.social) just launched a new way to join in with us! You can officially become a member, for free, or with a voluntary contribution. Or pay a minimum amount for a printed membership pack in the post.
