Art is the most powerful tool humans have for self reflection, and often things that challenge our beliefs end up giving us more clarity in those beliefs. More art means more ways to understand ourselves and others.
Simply come at it with curiosity, and trust that no matter how challenging or problematic it might be, that you will remain in control of what you think is right, and not be tainted by simply thinking about it.
We never have to throw any art away, cancel it, or demonize it. We can instead use it as intended, enjoy it, and also use it to examine our own complex hearts. And in doing so, we can help others contextualize it in a way that gives us both a greater sense of understanding.
Serving suggestion for any art that upsets you:
Use the fact that you feel upset to realize that the art itself gave you the tools to look at your own, possibly conflicting feelings in an interesting way.
