Susannah Martin House Marker | Salem Witch Museum A stone with a historical marker embossed in it currently occupies the space where Susannah Martin’s house once stood. Although the location of the marker is in present day Amesbury, MA (about 20 mile...

Puritan minister, Cotton Mather, called Susannah Martin one of the most “impudent, Scurrilous, wicked creatures in the world.” However her house marker states that she was an honest, hard-working Christian woman, and “a Martyr of Superstition.”

And often with ulterior motive. My 10th great grandmother, Susannah Martin, was hanged during the Salem Witch Trials. She challenged male inheritance over her father's land.

Irrespective of how John feels, his words are simply not compatible with an inclusive prize that celebrates all LGBTQ+ people. Just like a racist statement would not be allowed in a prize for writers of colour, or a sexist statement tolerated for a prize for feminist writers. /11

Coffee shop idea: Introduce ‘available seat’ placards that solo diners can place on empty chairs at their table, making it easier and less awkward for others to know which spots are open.

Right now, delegates from around the world are debating how much the planet will respond to plastic pollution.

To the delegates who are showing up for a strong treaty, who are standing up for nature, who are tired but still working for our planet and ocean:

We see you. THANK YOU.

❤‍🩹 Living with #ChronicIllness triggered by infection often means also teaching our doctors—on top of managing our own health.

💥📖 That’s why I’m so thrilled to discover this new clinical resource from @putrinolab.bsky.social!

If you’re able-bodied, take a moment to appreciate the work your body quietly does for you every day. It’s a gift.

This past year, I’ve grieved the changes in my body and the struggles that have come with them. But I’m also grateful. For what I can still do, for the places I can still go, and for the ways I’ve learned to adapt.

Two years ago, I was wandering all over downtown Philly on foot. This week, I’ll be picking up my wheelchair, so I can wander farther than the few blocks my body allows me now.

It’s not about becoming a rocket scientist (for most of us, anyway.) 🚀

It’s about raising (and being) people who can solve problems and ask better questions.

And that is how we move forward.

Because when we treat math and science as just “academic,” we miss the point.

They’re tools for navigating life. For building a better future. 🧬

And right now, we could really use more of that.

So if these subjects didn’t click for you in school, that’s totally valid! But please don’t write them off for your kids.

💡 Encourage them
🌱 Support them
🧐 Get curious with them

And like any skill, some folks pick it up more naturally than others. That’s okay! But...

EVERYONE is capable of learning how to think critically (with time, support, and practice).

Math and science build skills like:
🧩 Logical reasoning
🔍 Pattern recognition
⚖️ Weighing options
🛠️ Creative problem solving

In other words: LIFE SKILLS

Here’s the thing, friends: People often say they’ll never need to solve complex math or science problems in real life. But learning those subjects isn’t just about equations or facts. 📚

It’s about training your brain. 🧠

These skills are foundational. And when they decline, so does our collective ability to:
✅ Solve complex challenges
✅ Make sound decisions
✅ Imagine better systems

It’s all connected. 🔗🔗🔗

Sure, there are bigger problems in the world right now. 🌍But a lack of skills in reasoning isn't going to help with societal, economic, or technological (to name a few) growth and improvement in the long run.

We need people who can think things through. 🛤️

I give a surprising amount of advice in various online groups that boils down to…
🧮 simple math
🧠 basic critical thinking

The kind most of us were taught by 8th grade. And honestly? It has me pretty worried. ⚠️
