About Classic Bittic Chapter 8: How Nouns Work

Classic Bittic nouns can be combined with content words to refine their meaning. (from left-to-right) person fix “repairman” machine fix “fixing machine” Once a specific noun is combined with a content word, it can be used again by itself without losing the refined meaning. come animal red yellow sarcastic “The orange cat arrived.” go animal “The animal (implied to be an orange cat) left.”

Content words following a noun need to follow a specific order. Generally, they follow this order: Purpose - Material - Origin - Color - Shape - Age - Size - Opinion - Quantity vehicle medical iridium magenta circle new small good one “One good small new round magenta ambulance that’s made from iridium.” All nouns can be prefixed with one of the two demonstratives. (from left-to-right) this vehicle “this vehicle” that vehicle “that vehicle”

About Classic Bittic - Chapter 8. I originally envisioned Bittic's nouns to be classifiers like in Chinese except that they were mandatory in all contexts. Later I realized that it was simpler to analyze the classifiers as the only true nouns. #conlang

This is the latest version of my world map! From left to right there's Peijh, Katanna, and Manta (the islands don't have names yet-). They're very isolated due to natural barriers between them, but there is some contact, mostly between eastern Peijh and Katanna.
