In The Blessed, queer women include my main characters, Zora & Iluaneh, but also there are: Stani, Iriya, Aneliya, Sanela, Ralitsa, Lyena, Niksha, Neda... And I'm definitely forgetting someone. They're all queer, I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also, this is for a character who will only play a bigger part in Book Three, and it's not even the longest thing I've written as far as The Blessed backstories are concerned.
The longest thing so far is the prequel doomed sapphic romance, still unfinished at close to 8K 🫠

Niksha bristled. “I’m fourteen. Aren’t boys allowed to serve at this age?” “Yes, they are. And, it seems, so are girls.” He studied her. “I wouldn’t have guessed you are fourteen. Such a little thing.” He’d barely finished the sentence before Niksha’s fist fell on his nose. A terrible crunch pervaded the air, followed by his surprised yelp. “What in Triglav’s name?!,” he exclaimed, holding his bleeding nose. “I reckon I’m not so little after all,” she said, and left the inn.

So this little bit of backstory I started writing yesterday is now 5.1K words long and is threatening to become a novelette 🫣

So it turns out I've had a typo in the name of a character in the synopsis I've been sending to agents while querying The Hand You're Dealt 🙃 It has been MONTHS. No wonder I've been getting rejections, I'd reject myself.

I am more and more horrified by the state of the world and the great comeback of patriarchy disguised as "embracing girlhood" and "whimsy" is a big part of that.
I may have an essay drafted partly about that 😶

Last week in one of my classes (advanced EFL) we were talking about general knowledge and I asked the group how much general knowledge they thought they possessed, and one of my students said she knew very little, because she's "just a girl" 💀
I have been crying about it ever since.

So far (day 5 of draft detox), I've made progress on points B, C, and D, and have successfully stayed away from Book Two and new projects, and also have not given in to the urge to begin draft five of Book One.
I'm giving myself 9 more days before I dive back in.

I now have a separate file on Ellipsus under the name "All the Bolens", with each of the kings numbered 🙃 Two monikers still missing.
But the history is progressing!

Let's play a game called: How Many Monikers Can I Come Up With For a Line of Twelve Kings With the Same First Name? 🫠

Sure, always happy to talk stories and writing!

That's probably why I can't do Instagram well. I'm not going to just post whatever gets me engagement. I'd rather have 10 followers that are actually interested than 10K gathered through my bending to the requirements of the algorithm.

Social media of today kill creativity. Folk can't even come up with a single post on their own and have to rip off other people. Can you call yourself a content creator if 90% of what you post is regurgitated from someone else?
And yes, I know, algorithms eat that up. Fuck algorithms.

I don't think I've ever said it, but--aside from the obvious enshittification of social media--I fucking hate trends.
What do you mean I haven't seen this post before, when I feel like not only have I seen it, but I have seen it 20 to 100 times over??

Being condescending towards Maeve is one of the greatest crimes one can commit against her. And Jeremiah has done worse.

Well, right now I'm mostly trying to see if there's much to lean into at all. I had this shelved for many months, so as I switch from third to first, I mostly want to figure out it there are any good bones in the story. Though, in the end, it'll probably be pretty raw and messy.

Directness, the tone will be more or less the same, I think. But with Anya being an unreliable narrator and the relationship being pretty toxic, I think it'll be more relatable in 1st person.

Yeah, that's why I'm switching it up. It'll hit different, especially in interactions with her girlfriend.
For now, I'm just keeping myself occupied between drafts of another project, but who knows, maybe I'll sit down and finish this some time soon 👀

Another couple of chapters in this one redone in first person. I almost forgot how much I liked this story, I still want to finish it at some point.
And if any of my OCs is a lot like me, it's Anya. A ball of barely restrained rage, self-doubt, and sarcasm.

The police car comes out of nowhere and screeches to a stop mere feet in front of me. I halt and hold my breath, instinctively readying myself for impact which never comes. I hug the drone to my chest as if it were my firstborn, but don't dare move. "Ma'am, may I ask what you've been doing with that drone?," the police officer jumps out of the car, tall and Black, towering over me in his civilian clothes. He has a short beard and an authoritative stance, reminds me a little of Idris Elba in "Luther", which somehow doesn't make it better. "Filming,"' I blurt out, loath to get into details unprompted. "What, if I may ask, were you filming?" Since I haven't moved, he dials down on the menacing demeanor and crosses his arms casually. I absurdly think I'd probably find him attractive if I met him under different circumstances. He has an easy charm about him, but-as I remind myself--he's still a cop, and a Black one at that, in Los Angeles, US of A. "Stuff. Scenery." "Hm. Interesting. Would that scenery, by any chance, include a- hm- the scene of a murder?" "Oh." I make an innocent face. "Someone's been murdered?" This is one of those moments when I really wish I were: a) a better actress, and b) less fucking sarcastic by nature. The Murder of Priscilla Faye, chapter 2, draft 1

And so I dug up my shelved thriller project and spent my entire lunchbreak changing the first three chapters of draft one from third to first person 🫠 Only some 7 chapters to go 😶
