A surreal collage made from old National Geographic magazines. An old woman sits in the center, wearing a red shirt with white polka-dots, holding one corner of a vast quilt of uneven shapes of fabric, of many different patterns, as though it were made of scraps that were collected through the years. The quilt is spread out before her, at least twice her own height. Behind her is a landscape of gentle hills, blue and green and hazy with moisture. A rainbow makes an arc down from the upper left corner, down to the old woman’s right side, terminating in the quilt. Two tall sunflowers rise up from one section of the quilt, from the center of a galaxy. The sunflower blooms are huge, and way up above the woman’s head, under the top of the arc of the rainbow. In the foreground, below the galaxy, a young family, (man, woman, and baby), reclines on a blanket, spread out over a meadow of red flowers that the quilt flows into seamlessly.
