NZ Govt: We’re going to protect women in sports

Women: Awesome! You’ll do more to protect women from sexually abusive male coaches?

NZG: Ah, no

Women: Equal pay for sportswomen?

NZG: Haha no

Women: Funding better facilities?

NZG: You’re not gonna believe this, but also no

Govt push to ban transgender athletes from all women's sport Government funding could be withheld if trans athletes aren't separated from competitions.

I don’t know any trans people that play competitive sports, but I know plenty of people who will hear, as intended, the hateful message that they don’t belong in everyday life. Fuck these people trying to boost themselves up by finding a small group of people to vilify.

Just Stop Oil activist jailed for six months for taking part in slow march Stephen Gingell, 57, thought to be first to receive prison sentence under new Public Order Act

With scarcely a voice being raised against it, we are sliding into a police state, in which an entirely peaceful protester, trying to prevent a societal catastrophe, can get six months in jail for marching slowly down the road.

Maori language edicts strains NZ government As New Zealand grapples with a new style of government and a new approach to the Maori language,...

So Luxon thinks public servants should pay for te reo Māori lessons but taxpayers should pay for his. Righto. Personally, I think te reo Māori lessons should be free for everybody but his hypocrisy is next level. #nzpol

NZ banks have not passed on recent falls in wholesale interest rates, inflating their profit margins on mortgage lending by ~100 basis points. That's potentially $2-$3b in extra profit per year for the largest banks. Chart from @alex sinton. Plus Dawn Chorus. thekaka.substack.com/p/we-cooled-...

More shock doctrines on their way via the sell out Shane Jones. A minister again for only 2 weeks and this is what he wants to unleash on us and our country.

Minister pulls brakes on cycling and walking initatives In a letter to local authorities, Transport Minister Simeon Brown said he told Waka Kotahi to halt work on cycling and walking initiatives.

Seriously what do these idiots stand for. On almost every policy they have positioned themselves at odds with how the rest of the world is attempting to tackle complex challenges, be it climate change, more liveable cities, wealth inequality, you name it. www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

Self-identification law kicks in A law change allowing New Zealand citizens to change their registered sex on their birth certificate has kicked in from today.

Officially 6 months since gender Self ID came into force in New Zealand, and not a SINGLE issue has arisen from it.
Not ONE.

We were promised a wave of men invading women’s spaces, record numbers of rape, women too scared to leave home.

All of it theatre for bigotry.

every story about a breakthrough in women’s health is like, previously doctors thought the symptoms were caused by their abnormally small and hysterical brains but researchers have found there is a legitimate medical explanation that has been ignored for 70 years.

Opinion: Treating people equally can be bad for their health We don’t all start out in life from the same place, writes Richard Shaw, and that's why treating people equally can mean unequal outcomes.

“So it’s important to remind ourselves that, historically, Māori have often been treated differently – and almost always to their detriment.” www.1news.co.nz/2023/12/12/o...

A call for genuine accountability: How do I explain health equity to the ACT Party and Mr Luxon? Lucy O’Hagan, drawing on personal experience, pens an impassioned letter to the incoming government not to disestablish Te Aka Whai Ora in the interests of genuine equity in healthcare

“From behind your high fences, you will only understand your people who are also my people: white, entitled, demanding, always with the unspoken threat of a complaint in the offing if things are not done right in our way – the right white way.”

So ironic that when the world thought we in Aotearoa were suffering under a fascist, authoritarian regime, we were merely doing good public health and now that we are actually under the 'governance' of whatever this RW, backwards, now authoritarian nonsense is, nary a word out of them.

Te reo Māori proficiency and support continues to grow | Stats NZ New Zealanders are getting better at speaking te reo Māori and are more supportive of its use in day-to-day life.

The 2021 General Social Survey found that 57% of NZers thought the government should support the use of te reo Māori, 62% thought it should be a core primary subject and 56% wanted bilingual signage. Still only 7.9% of the population (and 34% of Māori) could speak te reo 'at least fairly well'.
