Basic workflow for community projection and adaptive dynamics analyses using R package adapt3.

Cool:
"Package adapt 3 is available on CRAN and can be used to study the nature and stability of ecological interactions, the mechanics of natural selection and even speciation."

In retrospect, perhaps the least accurate thing is that deportations are the above-the-fold headline. Telling in itself.

One other thing I want to acknowledge is that I know there are difficult feelings about going back to Cleveland. This meeting was booked in 2020, as part of a negotiation to be able to reschedule our meetings due to the pandemic.

In 2024, the Tri-Societies ratified a rubric for location choice 🧵

There definitely is. I might be discussing gender ideology, which no one knows really how to define, but is definitely not allowed, and it might come up if I talk about a movie where a major plot point involves… trans dinosaurs.

There will be a Fall 2026, because I have had to already submit all nine of my Fall 2026 course syllabi into the online Simple Syllabus portal. (Some are multi section courses, others are not real but still syllabi must be submitted). Why would the regents make us do this if there was no Fall 2026

I was just thinking about how absurd it feels to be dealing with per diem expenses and travel reports in Concur

you know how Empire Strike Back had a bunch of cool new guys added — all the bounty hunters, for instance? well that is because George Lucas suddenly owned the merch rights, at which point of course you invent Boba Fett.

mark my words KPOP Demon Hunters 2 is going to add so many cool looking guys

Happy #FossilFriday!

Here’s a scanning electron microscope (SEM) image of a tiny but mighty ostracod🦀

📢 This image shows the trefoil-patterned left valve of an ostracod, a minuscule bivalved crustacean from the Eastern Coral Sea (Australia)

I've said this before but as a reminder the Knuckes miniseries spin-off of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies is absolutely incredible. 10/10

@arsenaultrivera.bsky.social based on the end of that chapter, my head canon is now that Kirol’s parents must be used-car salespeople, hence their distaste for anyone friends with their parents

The new annual review from Kay Behrensmeyer has a killer Figure 3 depicting how different samples of the geologic record equates to different samples of stratigraphic time.

I was visited by a sphinx moth, which was so large I nearly mistook for a hummingbird until it uncoiled its proboscis — can you see it?

( @inaturalist.bsky.social tells me even from these low-res out of focus snapshots that it’s a white lined sphinx)

Tolkien was hardly the only one. I can think dozens of British authors I read as a kid, and if there was any mention of the English migrations, the Normans were always described as invaders imposing a foreign class system by force. Strong populist class conflict vibes tied to king Arthur, etc

I've seen a lot of demoralized posts (and emails) from people who didn't get into grad school this cycle.

This was one of the worst cycles I've ever seen due to massive cuts to research funding, financial difficulties at universities, and technological disruptions.

The Crab: Please stop asking questions about the $2 million that the Department of War has spent on crab in September alone. This is tactical crab; they are using it to make allies with a Terrible Thing in the Deep Sea that will be helping us to de-mine the Strait of Hormuz, if we can just figure out how to communicate with it. That will really show our so-called allies!

Help! We're removing the aboral disk of the brittle star Amphipholis squamata in search of juveniles - they're brooders - and we're finding these hollow ossicle-like rods, arranged in sequence. What the heck are they? #ophiroid #echinoderm #calcite
