I think this fleshy obscenity is some sort of smooth sea-cucumber, but I really need an echinoderm-fancier to help me on this one.
Margined olive (Amalda marginata).
This is a very lovely looking gastropod, but I'm not sure what it is, so 'The Seashells of Tasmania' is coming out so I can try to work it out.
Top row, left to right: Scads of these live, white bivalves were beached, but I am useless at identifying featureless, white bivalves; I think this is a live great whelk (Penion maximus), which we carried back to the sea; I think this is a very worn scaly star shell (Bellastraea squamifera). Middle row, left to right: Cream honeycomb sponge (Holopsamma laminaefavosa); egg sacs of southern reef squid (Sepiotheuthis australis); finger sponge (Callyspongia nuda). Bottom row, left to right: Some sort of Lovecraftian horror that looked like a small, gelatinous. headless fish making out with a rock, so I've no idea what it is but am glad they found each other; mosaic sea-star (Plectaster decanus); a very worn-out skate or ray of some sort. (Any clarifications especially gratefully received!)
