Le stelle brillano attraverso una delle finestre vuote dell'Abbazia di San Galgano.

Le vetrate più preziose.
Da solo nel buio, accanto all'abbazia, guardo le stelle e per qualche decina di minuti tutto il mondo diventa un ricordo lontanissimo, per un po' mi scordo di me e di tutti i miei limiti.
Una breve tregua prima di crollare di nuovo nella realtà nei modi più sconfortanti.

This deep honey-yellow glass jug fairly glows with iridescence. Dark turquoise handles and spiralling trails provide contrast. Perhaps used for unguents, it was made in the eastern Mediterranean, probably in Roman Palestine. 🏺 #ancientbluesky

My photo shows a Roman cobalt blue mould-blown glass scent bottle in the form of a (scallop?) shell. It has a cylindrical neck with a folded rim. There is a round sectioned handle at either side of the neck. Dimensions: height 8.5 cm, diameter 5.2 cm. It was bequeathed to the British Museum by Felix Slade in 1869.

My photo shows a reproduction of the so-called Sappho Fresco, which is a famous Roman fresco from Pompeii. The original was on loan when I visited the Museo Arqueologico di Napoli. The portrait-style painting depicts a wealthy young woman holding writing implements. She wears a plain green tunic with a pinkish-browny-grey mantle covering her shoulders, large gold hoop earrings, and a gold wire hairnet beneath the rim of which emerge curls of hair which frame her face. In her left hand she holds a wax writing tablet and in her right hand she holds a black iron stylus pen which she rests against her bottom lip. She gazes in thoughtful contemplation. This fresco is known as the Sappho Fresco after the Greek Poet. On display National Archaeological Museum Naples

We found some of these, though without bronze. It was a very, very odd feeling. They are beautifully made, with multi-process craftsmanship. The sclera was white marble, carefully carved and smoothed to shape, with a high polish to the surface, and the corners of the eyes delicately painted 1/
