Great post from @petepaphides.bsky.social with link to doc about Dog Man Star

For what it's worth, I think Suede went from a band touched by the Gods with Bernard Butler, to an average indie band without him.

And The New Dark Ages now has a cover! Bitter years of book reviewing have taught me not to get excited and that most books are fated to be ignored. But I am finding it hard to stay entirely jaded in this instance…

Giving Braverman the education brief is quite a choice for Reform. I was on an education commission with her once before she went completely mad and she knew absolutely nothing at all.

I'm amazed at how many people would get the kids to do some kind of sketch. Isn't there all kind of ways that could go wrong

change in y over change in x = 4. Being honest here!

A long shot, but has anyone read Ingenious Pain by Andrew Miller?

2 months ago 1 0 0 0

Ok, I better read this. Everything I've read in teaching discusses the differences of the brains of teenagers

What are you arguing about it for? Your complaint is that the ban isn't long enough? It's harmful and please don't tell me the adolescent brain is the same as the adult brain, that's simply wrong.

I'm a teacher, I'm gonna take a good guess that I speak to teenagers far more often than you do

Lots of evidence that the rise in self-reported mental health issues by adolescents maps onto the rise of use of social media

Ok, I wasn't rattling off a slogan by the way

I don't understand. Social media is hugely problematic for those going through adolescence

Just started reading about the Dunning-Kruger effect. It's so bloody obvious.

Three sets of increasingly difficult questions, designed to identify gaps in the basic skills needed to be successful on a GCSE paper.

All @tessmaths.bsky.social's idea.

Absolutely. The reality for teachers can be miserable. I know more than one teacher who is off sick at the moment because of the behaviour of a tiny minority of students. That's the reality.

Thank you for writing this.

14. Argh one more - we should also be mindful that if schools become more disrupted, less calm, more uncertain they will be environments which more and more children and adults find unpleasant - we could get into a cycle of worse attendance and behaviour as a result.

Absolutely. There will be a significant minority of students in huge numbers of schools, including 'Outstanding' schools who go round deliberately ruining lessons, ruining the chances of other students and damaging the health of teachers.

That's the truth.
