Thanks to Jonah Berger at EUI for writing this review of our section in Bonn!
It was great to bring together people from our Arbeitsgemeinschaft on historical landscape research and as always a pleasure to work with @lucowitz.bsky.social and Solveig Vanniez-Salvesen.
Kein Publikum, kein Problem?
Cover of the book The Pink Scar by Thomas R. Dunn. Its centrepiece is a pink triangle surrounded by smaller pink triangles.
I just came across The Pink Scar (2025), which — both in its title and its argument — strongly recalls The Badge of Injury, a work by my friend @sebboo.bsky.social /Sébastien Tremblay that appeared two years earlier. It’s an important and fascinating topic that truly deserves attention.
Der Addendum finde ich peinlich aber I'll take what I can take!
Heute:
Micropolitics of Landscape. Power and Control in the Invisible Spaces (1750–1950s)

Da muss also sehr bald was passieren.

I used to watch Terra X every sunday as a kid, so it was a real pleasure to join an episode of this ZDF documentary series as an expert. A fascinating dive into the hidden histories of Venice—on very (very) popular ground. Watch my sixty seconds in three bits here: www.zdf.de/play/dokus/t...
The cover of Sébastien Tremblay, A Badge of Injury.
My brilliant friend and colleague @sebboo.bsky.social Sébastien Tremblay presented his book A Badge of Injury on the New Books Network — sharp analysis, compellingly told, highly recommended! Go and listen, then go and read! 🎧📚

This summer, our Research Colloquium in Early Modern Gender and Cultural History (FU Berlin) dives into Ottoman ornament in Maltese prisons, ruins as textual landscapes, and emotions in the Baltic Crusades.

Highly recommended when you're interested in modernity as an emic category across diverse contexts; Kolland reveals its semantic indeterminacy and performative nature in both Western and non-Western intellectual circles.

I have immense respect for Ally Louks, who faced an anti-humanities and misogynistic backlash for her PhD thesis. You can read her reflections here:
