Reposting my guide on online teaching:
-what it is
-what it isn't
-whether online teaching is actually right for you
-how to approach it professionally
-what to avoid, and
-why a lot of what's out there is misleading.
For teachers new to the job or just moving online.

Season 2 offered closure, so I didn't plan to watch a season 3 dragging the story.
Now, it seems it won't only be dragging the story, but mining the slightest tiny bit out of it, without any consideration of the storyline.
Therefore, unless I hear about good suprises, I will not even bother.
I will always be a lover of books, but I won't subscribe to the idea that it's screen time that's ruining language.
It is the quality of the program.
If you have the child watch "Next Toddler The Voice" or "Little Master Toddler Chef", it will definitely ruin its vocabulary.
And yours.
Image of an iceberg. It's about the situation in online education, where the idea of "effortless", "no-study", "no-grammar" learning gets all the votes.
Just because everybody and their mother have found a way to offer online lessons, it doesn't mean that online #education as a whole is a glorious scam run by opportunists with no clue.
Vet them better.
It's up to you.
Legit online #teachers are not the education police.

Finding/reading/analyzing/understanding primary sources, for non-historians.
It could be specific (eg a time period) or as a skill (more to my liking).
If you are using @italkioffical.bsky.social, please check your communications (emails, messages) and your account settings.
Audio recordings in the platform-provided classroom are mandatory as of today, for AI training.
The students can opt-out, the teachers can't. (No comment.)

In my defense, I was consuming media in the Target Language while knitting this garment, so, technically, I didn't exactly lie to my student :) #langsky #teacherlife #Greekteacher
Today I told my student it's absolutely feasible to #study 15 words per day. That there's no way a determined person wouldn't manage such a simple goal, health excepted. I told my student if I can achieve this 15-word goal, they can, too.
My student knows me, wasn't surprised.
My result:

Not that I'm hovering over my notifications waiting for these videos to appear...
(More than the historical commentary, I admit I enjoy the social commentary.)
For Patrons I've finally put together a members-only RSS feed and dedicated Spotify channel, meaning that if you subscribe to Fall of Civs you can listen completely ad-free on any podcasting app you like.
Find it below:

I make the same comment all the time, when I see such items, but we really didn't advance much in that sector. Everything I see in modern shops, made with cutting-edge technology and the finest improved materials, is something that I've already seen in a museum.

As a #language #teacher, I do aim for customer satisfaction, but by my standards: learning goals, exam grades, repeated business, tales of successful travels, rekindled love of heritage culture.
Sure, some online professionals 💋 are required to please each & every customer.
We teachers aren't. 🤷♀️
Sunlit #Greece? Bright and warm? Erm... Spoiler below!
What about the learning process? :( That's where all the fun is!
Fantastic news! I prefer to wait for the videos, but I'm so eager to follow this civilization's path, that I may give the audio an early try.
I wish students would offer me November deals for a change, instead of getting them 🤔
Say, a nice deal to submit ALL their homework on time, every time, diligently done, tidy and legible/audible/watchable, until November 30th?

Although if we work together for some time we may start discussing things like "I went to Italy for my summer holidays", or "I hate stevia", I don't see why I'm expected to share my daily events, my family life and my inner thoughts with all my students.
We are not best friends, I am your #teacher.
I got stuck at verb conjugation and never found the patience to continue.
The Greek version would probably say Πήγασος, though. Even more so since it's about branding.

A cat saying "I see you"
Students: being assigned a story to improve vocabulary
Also students: sneakily writing fanfics about the story characters
Well, at least they're engaged with the text?
I won't ask why you're fanfic-ing my lesson story characters... but remember to use those grammar skills! 👩🏫

Your friends, who are an A2 at most and who struggle with basic vocabulary, become a ⭐ C1 ⭐ when they talk about their best hobby or a social issue that affects them.
It's not surprising and shouldn't be discouraged.
Instead of confining them in their A2, help them enjoy their little C1s.

Learning them as a hobby or for studies is one thing, expecting to be understood in the street is another.
I've discovered that many people, especially non-Europeans, think it's the same language. It's not strange. Modern culture is not as advertised as ancient culture. When people hear "Greek", they hear "Plato".
Because we're taught ancient Greek at school, it's not impossible to understand a large portion of the text, but you can't expect a good "translation" from the average person. Older people who know Katharevousa will have an easier time.
The core mechanics are similar, but people will struggle with grammar patterns, "short words" and meanings that have evolved or disappeared.
Look, although it's very commendable to want to learn any form of #Greek, the ancient Classics and the Greek in your Bible are not what you need if you are learning the language to introduce the newborn to your in-laws or to start a hospitality business in #Greece.
Just saying.
