Even though it’s *just* Kamurocho again, it feels so refreshing starting out with a new protagonist, wildly different from Kiryu or Majima, with new characters and a really fun western(?) sound track.

I jumped right into Yakuza 4 Remastered last night and man does it make such a good first impression.

However I just really didn't care for the main story or Mine as a villain at all.

Well that's the end of Yakuza 3 Remastered. Had fun, really enjoyed Okinawa, Morning Glory, the kids, and the new characters in general.

God a whole chapter to just exposition dumping. It was a slog and made me realize that while I love the new characters and the Morning Glory stuff, I have no interest in the main story/mystery of Yakuza 3 at all.

After waiting a whole year after beating Kiwami 2 just for RGG to hire and defend a sex pest, I ended up starting 3 Remastered (which I owned already anyways) and you know what? It plays fine and looks amazing. The story also has everything I wanted so far.

Honestly the biggest factors was that the mystery substory removed sounds like something I would love and I do feel gross about the inclusion of a sex pest actor by RGG.

I think I'll still play Kiwami 3 at some point, but way later and definitely after I'm caught up with the series.

Man I was unsure at first but the more I play the more I'm certain I have absolutely zero regrets going for this version over Kiwami 3.

One of the most meme'd about screenshots from Yakuza 3 actually ended up being a real tear jerker. Really liking the whole cast of orphans so far. A little sad I haven't seen them in any promos for the later games.

I'm genuinely loving Kiryu's dad arc in Yakuza 3 so far.

World End Syndrome is weirdly the game that got me back into visual novel style games and mystery ADVs in general.

I'm pretty excited to start this one!

Back to the fight. Yakuza 3 time. The Kiwami 3 controversies bummed me out so I'm just going to play the Remaster version since I bought it for PS4 already anyways.

Combat was pretty easy once you got Ramuh and then Sonon. Still, playing as Yuffie is pretty fun and the new stuff like more team materia and synergy attacks were really cool.

Imagining this system with the other FF7 party members just makes sense, so I'm assuming it's in Rebirth.

It was a little short but I didn't mind at all.

I'll die on the hill that CC was just a time and place thing. People were hungry for more FF7 and it was the most impressive PSP game at the time.

I say this as someone who loves FF7, currently reading the novels rn.

The end of Mutation has me hopeful that the story has a little more energy in the next game.

Still, worldbuilding, vibes/aesthetics and straight up charm make up for a lot of Mutation’s faults. And I do think there’s something fun about just turning off my brain while going through one of these dungeons room by room.
