#Hokum - Bump-in-the-night ghost stories with jump scares are generally my least fav kind of horror film, so while this film wasn't to my personal taste, it was good for what it is. If you liked McCarthy's other films, you'll like this too.

#LeeCroninsTheMummy #TheMummy - A paint-by-numbers possession film spiced up by the stylistic hot sauce that is Cronin's direction. An absurd amount of split diopter shots! Wan & Blum's blandness at war with Cronin's talent, ending in a truce.

Per the Speech & Debate Clause, Senator Wyden, Rep Massie & literally any congressperson could leak the “secret interpretation of surveillance law” without fear of prosecution.
I get not wanting to test it under Trump, but you have the ability to leak it if it’s that bad. Do your duty, Senator.
#OverYourDeadBody - American remake of "The Trip" will play better if you haven't seen the OG, which is darker and doesn't telegraph its twists as hard. If "The Trip" is a cocktail w 2 oz of spirit, OYDB only has 1 oz. Still gory tho!

#FacesofDeath #fod2024 - Two impressive lead performances and tons of wonderful creative choices. Exceptionally pleased with the film's meta commentary, as well as its bonafides as a straight ahead, Thomas Harris-like horror/thriller with teeth

#Exit8 - A "Cube"-like film based on a video game that is sometimes frustrating, and lacking a certain survival element that might have been helpful. It's a decent, fun enough time, though.

New YouTube video, because my autistic ass has never understood what people mean when they ask if a movie is "scary".

#PizzaMovie - A fairly funny throwback to 00s college comedies mixed with absurdist, Adult Swim-type humor.

I think Donald’s at Walter Reed hospital right now, social media posts from 3 hrs ago said this and the major road into the hospital is blocked off. There’s an emergency meeting at the WH. Not getting anyone’s hopes up but if it’s true I’ve got bubbly chilling.
#PrettyLethal - What's with this new trend of movies that FEEL like YA stories aimed at 14-year-olds, yet feature decidedly R-rated violence and blood? "Clown in a Cornfield" was another one. Like a Freeform TV movie trying to be John Wick.

I love movies that delve into murky waters about morality, and boy does #TheDrama go there! The film also happens to be incredibly, darkly funny for icing on top. Exploring context and severity versus black-and-white thinking, I loved it.

The head of a Satanic empire WOULD live in Rhode Island!
#ReadyorNotHereICome is a highly enjoyable, fun sequel, even if it doesn't reach the heights of the original. It's also exponentially better than that crappy "They Will Kill You" movie.

#Alpha - I think the unfairly negative reviews out of Cannes were bc the themes present in the first 2 acts take a backseat to the themes revealed in 3rd act. Mostly a straight-ahead drama with mild body horror elements. It's very good, tho.

#MikeandNickandNickandAlice - A fun little action/comedy (80% comedy, 20% action) with a time travel spin on things. The humor mostly works and Marsden and Vaughn seem to have a good time playing in the world. Good for being direct-to-streaming

#TheyWillKillYou has the same problem "Gunpowder Milkshake", another Tarantino knock-off, had: it's so concerned with trying to be "cool" that it instead comes across as obnoxious. Never as fun as it should be.

#ProjectHailMary - About as a great of a popcorn movie as Hollywood allows us to have nowadays, in terms of mass-market, four-quadrant, big studio films aimed at normies. You'll laugh, you'll cry...all the cliches!

#Slanted - Doesn't do the best of job of balancing serious character drama with very exaggerated, hyperbolic satire, but I ultimately enjoyed it. Shirley Chen and Mckenna Grace both great in the lead role. Loved the aspect ratio change.

#LetterboxdFriday
#LastFourWatched
I didn't watch much this week.
#TheBrideMovie - An "I know writers who use subtext and they're all cowards" screenplay. An attempted Me Too-spin on Frankenstein so obvious the main character screams "me too" twice in its climax. A big creative swing that misses.

#Dolly - Proof positive that any horror film is immensely improved when it is shot on 16mm. Plot is a little overly familiar, but I like the throwback vibe to grindhouse films of the "Mother's Day" or "Just Before Dawn" variety.

My massively spoiler-filled review of #Scream7. Bottom line, I liked it more than I expected to, while still having major issues with certain aspects.

#PsychoKiller is baffling, odd, and inexplicable. I will not for a second tell you it is a good film. However, I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the experience of watching it. You will not guess where the film goes in the climax!
