I hope someone draws this wonderful story about Tom Stoppard's Arcadia and the power of the arts to help us see things differently, to the attention of our Education Secretary. Do read it, it will lift your spirits.

Why is GOP dismantling Dept of Ed?
Because, as Jason Stanley's book says, "Erasing History is How Fascists Rewrite the Past to Control the Future."
That is why we must continue to support educators who teach people's history & critical literacy in K-12.

From what I have read about the book, the film is very different. After watching it I wanted to read the book, but when I looked into it I changed my mind.

Just watched Sarah Polley’s phenom #womentalking and cannot get over the way it speaks to this moment. How desperately we need Acts of Female Imagination.

Just saw a farmer say, "you don't have to admit you were wrong, you have to admit you were lied to, " and idk that seems like a good framing to call people in
NASA did a feature on me last year. It was up this weekend but now when you click on the link you get a 404 message.
Threads screenshot, Rose Luna = “Well, my bio just got removed from the NASA site because of an order that went out to remove stuff about women in STEM. I've only been on Threads for a full year, so a lot of people here never heard of a feature that NASA did on me talking about my love of the Moon, how I grew up in poverty, then my homelessness in the US, and then me being at NASA itself. That's how easy it is to erase you as a person, and everything you've done. I'm not even sure how I feel right now.”
Erasure, from threads… 💔
💯
“By mistake”?
Very interested in this project!
7 FEBRUARY 1775, LONDON: The House of Lords votes to approve the Commons’ motion that Massachusetts is in a state of rebellion. “The supremacy of the British legislature must be compleat, entire, & unconditional, or on the other hand, the colonies must be free and independent.”
We Are Not Who They Think We Are: How Human Nature Matters In This Emergency Rebecca Solnit 04 Feb 2025 — 10 min read Welcome to the emergency--or rather Meditations in an Emergency, this newsletter, not the national emergency, which is of course very unwelcome. What's striking to me about all the things our morally and imaginatively impoverished billionaires, notably Musk and Trump, right now is: they do not expect or imagine or understand consequences. Any of them– their theory of change seems to be that they are going to do stuff and then it will be done. Like they're moving furniture around, like you and I and the trans and immigrant communities and federal workers and Canada and Mexico are just so many sofas and chairs that are going to sit where they place us. Like we're inanimate objects. Maybe everything is dead in the sad lonely worldview inside their head. Which would also explain their recalcitrance about climate and nature: if you see it as a collection of inert objects rather than an intricate living system in which what you do to any one part may affect the whole, you grant yourself more license to meddle. But today I'm here to talk about the human--and human nature, and how they misunderstand that too.

According to a senior CDC official, some of the pages that were removed on Friday have been reinstated due to backlash from the scientific community and the public. Keep speaking up, it matters!
So useful, thank you!
Thanks for this! Wow, did not know that ♥️
Can we arrest them yet?
The Trump administration is scrubbing the CDC’s website of documents on reproductive rights issues, sexual health, intimate partner violence, and more.
I'm trying to save them.
You can find the deleted docs at cdcguidelines.com - I'll be adding more over the weekend.
On keeping a grassroots group together when everyone feels out of place. An oldie but a goodie from BK Loren.

Love it!
It is worth thinking deeply about what is normalized, enforced, or denied through the stories we can access, even in childhood (maybe especially in childhood).
