2/🧵 RangeShifter 3.0 introduces several new features:
🧬 Enhanced genetics module – for population genetics forward simulations, incl. neutral genetics and genetic load
🌍 Spatiotemporal demography – demographic rates can vary across space and time
🔁 Translocations – new management functionality
1/🧵 📢New Release: #RangeShifter 3.0📢
— available for both the batch interface and #RangeShiftR.
RangeShifter is a spatially explicit, individual-based simulation platform for #modelling species’ range dynamics, dispersal, and #eco-evolutionary processes across landscapes.

To celebrate #LGBTQPlusInSTEMDay, hear from our Staff Pride Network, Fellows’ Pride network, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and Diversity and Inclusion team for their reflections on what it meant to them to march in Pride. Read on our blog: https://royalsociety.org/blog/2025/11/lgbtq-in-stem/
Last year I wrote this for Transgender Awareness Week because of the challenges I've faced in my institution. Sharing it again as this week we celebrate trans identities and remember those who have been targeted for being themselves

Without forward-looking models, biodiversity policy risks missing the road to recovery.
Our new PNAS article calls for predictive tools and a World Biodiversity Research Programme to guide global action.

it’s time, EMPSEB begins tomorrow! Follow our conference account to get updates on all the cool science and community-finding that will happen at this cozy, almost*-all-PhD-student conference 😊 (*except for our wonderful invited speakers, of course)
Fantastic 🥳
Signed! Very well put!
Please if you find them get one for me to! So we can both wear at the next staff away day! Brilliant idea!!
I’m so sorry 😔 Sending you all my support

6 people at the protest, myself included, holding various signs. from left to right, the signs read: "harry potter is shite anyway" "come ask a real biologist about "biological sex"" "illegal lesbian??" and "trans women are women"
uni of aberdeen sbs biologists (and bonus morrigan the geoscientist) say biologists for trans rights! despite what transphobes like to claim, the proven science DOES NOT AGREE with them. trans women are women, trans men are men, and biology is much more complex than year 9 science lessons
It is an important time to support our trans family, friends and colleagues. A wonderful turnout of wonderfully diverse people in Aberdeen today.
ISBE26-the 20th International Society for Behavioral Ecology Conference will take place in Turin, Italy, from 20-24th of July 2026. We invite you to join us to enjoy a 5-day meeting rich in top-notch science and ample networking opportunities, in our beautiful city. Website out soon!

It's driving me up the wall that legal definitions are increasingly based on (at best) primary school-level takes on complex concepts (like 'biological sex') which, I don't know, you should probably consult actual experts on.
Also: trans rights are human rights; no LGB without the T(QIA+), ever!
Graphic with a purple background. It reads: "We are really shocked by today's Supreme Court decision- which reverses twenty years of understanding on how the law recognises trans men and women with Gender Recognition Certificates. The judgement seems to have totally missed what matters to trans people- - that we are able to live our lives, and be recognised, in line with who we truly are. We will continue working for a world in which trans people can get on with our lives with privacy, dignity and safety. That is something that we all deserve.". The Scottish Trans and Equality Network logos are in the bottom right.
Along with @lgbtiscotland.bsky.social, we've published our reaction to the judgement in the UK Supreme Court today.
There will be more we want to say to trans people directly once we have a chance to catch our breath.

literally paragraph 2.
Hopeless 😞 We just keep falling back in the dark ages with the glee of a large part of society.
TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS!
Whether hateful and intolerant people and institutions like it or not.
This is huge. My petition got approved. It challenges the UK government to the lift the Puberty Blocker ban on the grounds that it contradicts article 8 of The United Nations Convention On The Rights Of The Child.

I wrote this 5 years ago describing Eric Kaufmann/Policy Exchange's agenda on academic freedom as "McCarthyite."
Today Kaufmann says that Trump's impact on academic freedom is "likely to be net positive".

I cannot believe it! This is so dangerous and disheartening, undermining all the progress hardly achieved to protect diversity and vulnerable groups. We should all speak up in support of University of Sussex to avoid spiralling down into a hateful society
