However, the model had (unprompted) gone and used the dates of the diary entries and descriptions of what was going on to pull in the relevant historical context and **correctly** deduced:

I've been using a local LLM to transcribe a relative's handwritten diary from WW2. The OCR is great, no issues there. Thing is the NZDF had redacted the names of ships and the ports they visited from the letters.
